The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 417

Sophia went quiet. She knew it was true.

With Lance’s reputation, anyone close to him was bound to catch the business world’s eye. Even Aaron had CEOs trying to match him up with their daughters, slipping him business cards whenever they had the chance.

Catherine slipped out of the conference room and the door clicked shut behind her.

Sophia walked over to her brother. “So, are you really going to let Catherine resign?”

Lance stood there, sunlight from the setting sun casting a golden glow around him.

“Who blocked the news?” he asked.

“Gavin, obviously,” Sophia replied instantly.

Who else would even get involved in something this messy? Who else could actually take the media to court and win?

Sophia was just guessing, but Lance thought she’d already looked into it. He turned and walked out of the conference room, his footsteps echoing off the floor.

On his way back to the office, he and Catherine crossed paths without actually meeting, separated by the buzz of the secretarial office. They walked down different hallways, missing each other entirely.

The news online had been wiped clean. In her taxi ride home, Catherine scrolled through every major media site she could think of but found nothing. Not a single mention. It was like the whole thing had been erased, like it had never happened at all.

She remembered what Sophia had said. Instead of going home, she told the driver to take her to Gavin’s place.

She pressed the doorbell twice, heard footsteps inside, then Gavin opened the door. For a second, he just stared at her, too surprised to speak, then quickly pulled her inside.

“You got here at the perfect time,” he said. “I was just about to ask if you wanted help with the news online. Everything’s gone. Did Lance do it?”

Catherine stopped in the entryway and looked at him. “It wasn’t you?”

Gavin blinked, surprised. “Me? I wouldn’t dare do anything without your say-so.”

The Lees picked the spot, a restaurant not far from her apartment.

When Catherine arrived, everyone was already there. It wasn’t just Adela, but the whole Lee family, plus Lemuel and Sally. The four of them sat neatly in a private room, waiting.

As soon as Catherine opened the door, all their eyes turned to her. She felt like she’d just walked into a den of wolves.

“Catherine, you made it,” Adela said, standing up and walking over. “Honestly, I’ve seen you so many times and I never noticed you were pregnant. How far along are you?”

Catherine gently dodged Adela’s hand as she tried to link arms with her.

“Six and a half months,” she answered. She glanced over at Sally, who just happened to be looking her way. Sally rolled her eyes and looked away.

Catherine took a breath. “Geoffrey, Adela, thank you for getting the news taken down. But I have to ask—why did you help me?”
