The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 416

Lance spoke up suddenly, his face dark and unreadable, but beneath that calm, his words were sharp enough to cut.

The moment he got angry, the whole room felt like it was closing in. Ivan lost his smirk, hesitated for a second, then stood and headed out. Everyone else scrambled to follow, leaving in a hurry.

Catherine was the last to get up. Before she could take a step, Lance’s hand wrapped gently but firmly around her wrist. His fingers were warm, long, and strong, holding her in place without hurting her. It felt more like a silent warning than a threat.

The conference room door clicked shut behind them, shutting out the sounds of footsteps and chatter.

Catherine kept her eyes lowered, shadows hiding whatever she was feeling. Lance didn’t move from his chair, just looked up at her.

“Catherine, what kind of guy are you with? Things are a mess, and he’s still nowhere to be seen. Not even trying to stand up for you.”

She barely moved her lips, her voice steady. “It’s not that he won’t come. I just don’t need him to.”

Lance let out a bitter laugh. “You don’t need him? Maybe not now, but what about later? Is your kid never going to need a father?”

“Lance.” She cut him off before he could get any more worked up. “This baby is mine. I don’t need anyone else. Whatever people say about me in the future, I won’t blame anyone else. Keeping this child was my choice.”

Lance shot to his feet, tugged at his tie, and his hand trembled with the force of it. He stepped closer, closing the distance, his presence pushing the air out of the room. Catherine felt like she could hardly breathe.

She found herself backed into a corner, her back pressed against the wall, both hands up, trying to put space between them.

“Lance...” she started, but he wasn’t listening.
