When Catherine walked in, Letty was already waiting for her in the private room.
“Catherine, you won’t believe who I just saw,” Letty whispered, glancing toward the room next door. “Guess who Sebastian’s meeting with.”
Catherine set down her bag and took a seat. “Who?”
“He was supposed to meet a friend, but somehow it turned into Sally. She just walked in, and she’s visibly pregnant.”
Letty had only met Sally once, but it was enough to leave an impression.
Catherine’s eyes flickered, her plans to bump into Sebastian by “accident” suddenly thrown off.
Now, things were different.
“Stay here for me,” Catherine said, standing up. “No matter what happens, don’t come over.”
She headed straight for the next room.
The door was half open, and Sally’s voice drifted out.
“I never would have introduced her if I’d known what kind of person she is. I looked into her after, found out she’s pregnant with someone’s baby, and she’s desperate to find a dad. She even tried to hook up with her boss, the heir of the James family…”
Catherine was the “her” in Sally’s story.
“This is just too much. I have a meeting with Lance this afternoon, and I’m going to make him explain himself. How could SilverLeaf Industries let a woman like that climb so high?”
Sebastian was so angry he hadn’t slept the whole night.
It didn’t even matter if Sally was telling the truth. Catherine and Sebastian had only met once, just yesterday, but Sebastian was already acting like they were about to get married.
He was ready to believe, just from Sally’s story, that Catherine wanted to trap him into raising someone else’s kid. It was ridiculous.
“Catherine, so that’s why you asked me to introduce you to Sebastian. You were planning to throw me under the bus all along, weren’t you? Is it because you heard about you and Lance from Adelina?” Sally snapped back.
If lying was a competition, Sally would take the crown without even breaking a sweat. She didn’t even flinch.
Sebastian looked at Catherine, then at Sally, then back again. He was from Eldervale, and he’d dealt with the Lee family before. Compared to them, Catherine was just a stranger he’d only just met. It was easy to see who he’d believe.
“No wonder Lance turned down my meeting. So he’s with you…” Sebastian sneered. “I thought Lance was different from other guys, all noble and honorable, but he’s just as bad as the rest.”
Catherine shot him a look. “And here I thought someone in your position would have a little more sense, but I guess I was wrong.”
She had to admit, Sally really knew how to pick her targets. Sebastian was as stubborn as they came, set in his ways. If he wasn’t, he probably wouldn’t be sitting on a pile of money and still struggling to find a wife.
