The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 407

“I’m really not cut out for these rich boys,” Catherine said, dodging Sally’s setup with a polite smile.

But Sally was ready. She just grinned, already setting her next plan in motion. “Actually, the moment you walked in, someone noticed you. He asked me to say a few words on his behalf. He doesn’t care about status or background, so I thought I’d introduce you.”

She glanced over her shoulder and gestured to someone in the crowd.

A man stepped forward, dressed in a sharp, dark gray suit. He looked like he was pushing forty, with old-fashioned black-rimmed glasses and hair slicked back so precisely it gleamed. The stubble on his jaw made his skin look even rougher, the little signs of age impossible to hide.

“Sebastian, this is Catherine—the one I mentioned who’s really interested in meeting you,” Sally whispered to him, keeping her tone low but encouraging. “Her background isn’t perfect, but she’s talented and quite a bit younger than you. Don’t miss your chance.”

Sebastian barely heard her. His gaze was fixed on Catherine, like he’d already made up his mind.

“Sure,” he replied, barely acknowledging Sally.

Sally led him over, beaming. “Catherine, this is Sebastian from SeraTech.”

If it had been another spoiled rich kid, Catherine would have made up an excuse to slip away. But Sebastian was a businessman, and that made things trickier.

She reached out her hand, professional as ever. “Sebastian, I’m Catherine, from SilverLeaf Industries’ branch office.”

Sebastian shook her hand, his grip gentle but firm. “Catherine,” he repeated, breaking into a genuine smile.

“I’ll leave you two to talk. I need to check on a few other guests,” Sally said, patting Sebastian’s shoulder. She gave him a look before disappearing into the crowd.

Sebastian didn’t even glance after her. His attention stayed locked on Catherine.

“I know I’m a little older, but I haven’t really dated much. I’ve met a lot of women, just never got serious with anyone,” he explained, looking slightly embarrassed.

Sebastian could sense Catherine’s hesitation. He started pitching himself, almost like he was selling a business proposal. “Both my parents passed away. I’m an only child. You know SeraTech’s reputation—marrying me isn’t exactly a bad deal. I can tell you’re not after money. If we get married, you can focus on family, and you could even help with the business…”

After all these months in Eldervale, Catherine was finally getting a full picture of the locals—starting with Sebastian, who seemed to approach finding a wife with more determination than running his company. She could guess what Sally had said to him: that Catherine was looking for something serious. No wonder he was being so upfront.

“Sebastian, I’m sorry, I…”

“Wait, don’t rush to say no,” Sebastian interrupted, hearing the apology and realizing what was coming. He didn’t want to let go of this chance. After so many awkward blind dates, it was rare to meet someone who actually caught his attention.

“Let’s just start as friends. We can exchange numbers, get to know each other a little. What do you think?”
