The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 364

Sophia scowled so hard, it looked like she could squash a fly between her brows.

Catherine took a breath, trying to swallow back the sour ache in her chest.

She managed a small smile. “Go on, get back to work. It’s your first day, so show them what you’ve got. Don’t give anyone a reason to start whispering.”

Family drama was never easy to talk about. Sophia couldn’t exactly vent to her friends. She didn’t want to become the punchline of someone else’s jokes.

Finally seeing Catherine was a huge relief. She poured her heart out, but even then, it didn’t seem like enough. “Let’s get dinner soon, when things aren’t so crazy. I’ve got so much more to tell you.”

Catherine nodded. “Alright, go on.”

Once the office was quiet again, Catherine stared at the document in front of her. The words blurred together. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t focus.

Around noon, after finishing up some urgent paperwork, she left the office.

She had plans to meet Lorinda at a restaurant in the mall. They grabbed lunch, then wandered around the shops for a while.

By five, Catherine was back behind the wheel, heading to pick up Lance from work.

Lance looked sharp in a black suit, crisp white shirt, and a pale blue tie. There was a certain energy about him, cool and confident. He had a way of making everything else fade into the background.

Catherine pulled up, opened the door, and waited. Lance was on a call. He glanced over, slipped an unlit cigarette back into its pack, and kept talking.

“Adelina still hasn’t given us a date. She’s been calling Harrell a lot, but he’s not picking up,” he said.

“Dig up everything on Adelina, especially what she was up to during those two years abroad.”

His eyes were dark, focused. “Keep a close watch on the Green family. I want to know about every little thing they do.”

Aaron, on the other end, could tell something serious was brewing. He tensed up, ready to follow orders.

“How’s the Lewis situation?” Lance asked, glancing at Catherine. Sunlight spilled in through the half-open window, catching her profile. Even with just a little makeup, she looked stunning.
