Lorinda walked out of the kitchen in pale beige pajamas, a gray apron tied neatly at her waist.
“Snacks are ready. Go wash your hands and come eat.”
Catherine dropped her bag, shrugged off her coat and hung it up, then rolled up her sleeves and headed into the kitchen to wash up.
“It smells amazing in here. Your cooking is really on another level lately.”
Lorinda’s eyes sparkled with pride. “It has to be. I need to get good at this so I can make proper food for Jasper.”
Becoming a mom had changed Lorinda in so many ways.
She used to believe a woman’s hands were meant for building something big, not for chopping vegetables or scrubbing pots.
But with Jasper almost ready to start eating solids, she was trying out all sorts of new recipes.
Three minutes later, she brought over a steaming bowl of seafood noodles.
The noodles were piping hot. Catherine stirred them slowly, glancing up at Lorinda.
“Has Jasper had any trouble settling in these past few days?”
Lorinda rubbed her chin, sitting across from her at the table.
“Not at all. He’s just like me, super easygoing. The only problem is I haven’t found the right nanny yet.”
A few days of hands-on parenting had started to wear down Lorinda’s fierce maternal energy.
“Don’t rush it,” Catherine said gently. “Take your time. There are so many horror stories online about nannies mistreating kids. We can’t be careless.”
“Speaking of which, I actually found a postpartum care center for you. We should go check it out soon and book a spot. That place is always packed, you have to reserve months ahead.”
Honestly, Catherine should have booked ages ago.
Thankfully, someone at the center turned out to be a fan of Lorinda’s. They managed to squeeze her in.
Catherine nodded. “Alright. I’ll look at my schedule at work and let you know when I’m free.”
“Perfect.” Lorinda glanced over at the clock by the front door. “Eat up and get some sleep. You’ve got work tomorrow. I’m heading upstairs.”
“Wait,” Catherine said quickly. “Can you stay with me a little longer?”
