Letty shot up straight like she’d just been caught napping.
“Come in,” Catherine called, leading the way into her office.
Letty hurried after her and closed the door behind them. “So, this guy Josh from HR just called. He said he’s been waiting forever for me to come and fill out some transfer paperwork. Should I go now?”
Catherine set her briefcase down, took a seat, and motioned for Letty to sit too.
“Don’t bother. Your contract is still with headquarters. You’re not transferring here.”
Letty suddenly realized something was off. She sat down quietly.
“Wait, why not? Am I supposed to go back?”
Catherine gave her a serious look. “Things are complicated here. Just remember, you only listen to me. If anyone comes to you about anything, send them my way.”
Letty’s face grew even more serious. “What’s going on? Is there a spy or something?”
“No spy, just your usual office politics.” Catherine noticed Letty’s worried look and tried to reassure her. “Relax, Lance will handle everything. All we need to do is stick to our own jobs.”
Letty had come here expecting an easy ride, convinced she could just hang out with Catherine, do a little secretarial work, and coast through the days.
Who would’ve thought…
“Is it too late to change my mind?”
Catherine couldn’t help but laugh, shaking her head. “Way too late. We’re in this together now. It’s just you and me against the world in this office.”
Letty’s expression turned instantly gloomy.
Before Catherine could say anything else, someone knocked at the door.
“Catherine?” Neville’s voice came through.
