The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 232

Catherine kept her face blank, not giving anything away. Whether it was her fault or not, Belinda always seemed to find something snarky to say when she saw her. At this point, Catherine was used to it.

Her calm reaction only made Belinda even more annoyed, but Belinda still walked into the office and brought up Adelina.

"You really left Adelina all alone overseas?"

Lance was already sitting behind his desk. "She has things to deal with. She can't come back right now."

Belinda frowned. "She's a young woman, by herself. Aren't you at all worried?"

"She’s managed just fine for the last two years abroad." Lance glanced at Belinda. "If there’s nothing else, you can go. I have work to finish."

He pressed the intercom. "I need a summary report on the government project. Have it ready for me before you leave today."

"Yes," Catherine answered.

Belinda left, clearly frustrated.

Lance’s version of "before you leave" always meant Catherine couldn’t go home until the job was done. Luckily, she had started working on the report as soon as things started going wrong.

An hour later, she walked into Lance’s office with the finished file. "Lance, if that’s all, I’m heading out."

He took the folder from her, looking tired around the eyes. The trip overseas had thrown off his sleep, and after spending half a day with Adelina at the hospital, he’d flown straight back without a break. He hadn’t slept in over twenty hours.

Catherine gave him a gentle reminder. "You’ve already dealt with the board. The rest can wait until tomorrow."

Lance flipped through the report without looking up. "Why did Gavin want to talk to you again?"

She paused, only now remembering. Gavin had told her that Lance wasn’t marrying Adelina for love.

Catherine stared at Lance, searching his face for any hint, any clue at all.
