The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 316

Genevieve feigned a look of shock. "Mr. Sanger…"

Garnett's face was a mask of urgency. He grabbed her arm tightly, his voice laced with a barely perceptible tremble. "What did you just say? Say it again!"

Genevieve bit her lip, as if hesitating.

But Garnett couldn't wait. His voice suddenly rose several octaves as he barked, "Say it!"

"I… I said it's good to see you looking so well, Mr. Sanger…"

"That's not it!"

Garnett stared at her, his grip tightening on her arm. His breathing grew noticeably ragged. "What… what did you just say about Grady?"

"Grady…" Genevieve deliberately stuttered before steeling herself and speaking rapidly. "Grady was in a car accident two months ago. His car went off an overpass. He was killed instantly, his body mangled beyond recognition. He's dead."

Grady was dead!

Dead for two months!

‘Grady has a very important meeting today; he really can’t get away. Dad, don’t be mad at him.’

‘This time, with you getting out, Grady couldn’t make it back from his business trip. I was afraid you’d be even more disappointed, so I tried to come up with a better reason…’

‘Yes, you’re right. It’s not like we’ll never see each other again.’

Garnett instinctively wanted to deny it, but the more he recalled Victoria's explanations for Grady's absence and the unnatural expression on her face both times she’d mentioned him, the more he realized that what Genevieve was saying might be true.

Garnett staggered back two steps and collapsed onto a bench.

No wonder…
