The crowd, which had just been confidently critiquing the two designs, let out a collective gasp and fell silent.
Grant took in their expressions, a grim satisfaction on his face. It was all going according to his plan.
He gave a cold snort and shot a look at the stunned reporter. “Well? Now who do you think is more likely to be the plagiarist?”
The reporter’s face turned beet red, but he was speechless.
Grant turned back to the audience, his voice powerful and commanding.
“Of these two designs, the one on the right was a practice sketch Victoria did during her freshman year—a draft she discarded. The one on the left is a piece I had someone dig up from Tamara’s university portfolio.”
“As for which is superior, I trust you all have eyes. Even if you don’t understand design, it should be obvious which one is better, shouldn’t it?”
“So, I ask you, what possible motive would my student, Victoria, have for plagiarizing the work of someone whose skill level is so far beneath her own?!”
“You people in the media, and all of you in the crowd, you just follow the herd, believe every rumor you hear. The only word you heard was ‘plagiarism.’ But did any of you bother to investigate the skill gap between these two individuals? I’ve seen plenty of hacks copying masters. But a master copying a novice? In all my years, I’ve never seen such a thing! You may be young, but you seem to have seen more of the world than this old man!”
Grant's accusations landed like a series of slaps across the faces of everyone in the audience.
The entire hall was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
Sunny Lewis, standing beside Victoria, pulled out her phone and saw the trending topics on Twitter. Her eyes lit up, and she leaned close to Victoria’s ear. “Victoria, Mr. Rhodes is so cool, so powerful! He’s truly my idol! Look, the moment he showed up, he shut everyone down. They’re all so ashamed they can’t even lift their heads. The tide is turning online, too.”
Victoria glanced over and saw the comments on Sunny’s screen.
[Is that really Victoria’s design? The… the difference in their style and skill is huge, isn’t it?]
[Maybe they got it backward? Shouldn’t the one on the right be Tamara’s?]
[Hey, does anyone else feel like the design on the left is kind of similar to the one on the right? It’s like the left one is trying to imitate the right one’s design concepts but didn’t quite get it.]
[If what Mr. Rhodes said is true, then I have to ask, what was the point of Victoria plagiarizing Tamara? That’s completely backward!]
[So… is anyone going to verify if these drawings are authentic? Weren’t there a bunch of alumni from their school speaking out before? How come they’re all quiet now?]
[Oh my god, so it wasn’t Victoria who plagiarized Tamara, but Tamara who plagiarized Victoria?]
