Old Master Shaw was stunned when he heard the news.
Then, he looked at Goldie in disgust. "When I was framed and hunted by my fellow soldiers, I wondered i f you were the secret puppet master behind the event."
Goldie was struck silly by his words. "How is that possible? I'm just a sojourner, I have neither wealth nor power. How could I have orchestrated something like that?”
His tone warmed slightly. "Are you here to ask me to pay for your abortion?"
Tears filled Goldie's eyes immediately. "N...no."
"Then what do you want?"
Goldie kept quiet.
"I have a wife and we love each other very much! We have been married for years, I've always been very disciplined, never sleeping around with other women. That’s why, I want you to abort the child. I will pay for everything, I can even pay you some compensation. Just name your price!”
Goldie was sobbing so badly she could hardly speak. " I'm sick!”
Old Master Shaw frowned. “You are sick!"
Goldie nodded. "I have less than 20 years to live! But I don't want to die. I haven't climbed mountains or waded through rivers, I haven't travelled the world, I haven't been in a relationship, I haven't...There are so many things I haven't accomplished yet, but my doctor told me I have at most 12 years left to live. 12 years is enough for me, but if I get an abortion, I might not survive the operation." Goldie looked at him pitifully.
Old Master Shaw did not know what to say.
"That's why if I'm kind and softhearted with you, I’ll be a disloyal husband! For the rest of my life, I will remain loyal to my wife alone. As for other women, I can pay any amount of compensation that you want, but you cannot give birth to the child!"
At the end, he even added, "In this lifetime, the only woman who can have my children is my wife!"
At that moment, Goldie felt as if her heart had been plunged into an icy river. She felt cornered, helpless. Was she really going to die just like this? To someone with a short life span, not to mention 12 years, she would not complain even if she had 24 years left to live.
However, she had less than 15 years left, or maybe even less. She had to fight for every second. 1
She openly challenged him, following him everywhere he went, literally like his own personal baggage.
Finally, he was totally fed up with her constantly pestering him, so he said to everyone else. "I just made one mistake, just one! You're an adult, whether you have the child or not, you should take responsibility for your own actions. Don't tell me I have to take responsibility for your life?"
