She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 7

Loyce honestly thought this entire family suffered from some kind of shared delusion. She tried to sidestep Byron and head deeper inside, but he blocked the doorway and clamped a hand around her arm.

“That area isn’t for you,” he said in a low warning. “Don’t offend the wrong people and bring trouble down on the Sampsons.”

A sedan parked out front lowered its window. A young woman leaned out, anxious. “Byron, did you get it? There’s no time. His condition can’t wait.”

Byron finally let go of Loyce, shot her one last warning look, and walked away.

Loyce caught sight of the medication in his hand and, out of sheer professional instinct, called after him. “I wouldn’t give that to Hamilton if I were you. It won’t help. It’ll make things worse.”

The young woman in the car turned cold instantly. “Ignorant child. My family’s clinic has been practicing medicine for a hundred years. Byron, if you don't trust it, you don't have to use it.”

Byron hurried to the car and apologized to her in a lowered voice. Then he turned back and lashed out at Loyce. “Hamilton got worse because of your medicine. Quiana begged everywhere before she found the Walsh family’s ‘genius doctor’ to treat him. And this medication—only got it because of the Walsh family’s connections at CoreWell. If you keep running your mouth, I’ll have you thrown out of Metropia.”

The sedan sped off right in front of her.

Loyce shrugged. Fine. She’d said her piece. What happened next was on them.

She walked into the pharmacy. The pharmacist recognized her immediately and hurried from behind the counter to escort her to the owner’s office.

Loyce set the vial on the desk. “Scott, detox it, list it for twenty million, and sell it.”

Scott’s eyes lit up. “This good! First time you’ve made this one, right? So you heard the rumors too? The Shapiro family’s been looking for Nexo-7. They even came to me yesterday.”

Loyce said, “No idea. It just happened to work today. Use it however you need.”

Then she added, “One more thing. Cancel Byron’s VIP status. From now on, if he buys anything here, he pays full price. No special treatment.”
