Yale Nash's political influence now eclipsed almost everyone in the country. There was no telling how many foreign syndicates he was in bed with, and as the undisputed leader of the hawkish faction, the sheer volume of military and political power he wielded was staggering. Eliminating him was going to be a monumental task.
The three of them made it home safely. The military hospital soon called to report that Zelie was physically fine, though heavily sedated due to the extreme shock. She would be discharged shortly, and a heavily armed military convoy was already prepping to escort her back to the Lonsdale estate.
As for the chaotic aftermath in the parking garage, Lucian had immediately dispatched his loyalist troops to lock down the area. Every photo, video, and live stream that had captured their faces was scrubbed from the internet before it could even hit the news cycle.
He refused to let a botched assassination ruin Loyce's Christmas.
The information blackout was so efficient that, aside from Loyce's brothers who had been tipped off, Gordon Lonsdale was blissfully unaware of the danger his granddaughter had just faced.
Before stepping through the front door, Loyce tugged on Forrest's sleeve. "Don't tell Grandpa about the attack. He's getting older. He deserves one peaceful Christmas."
Forrest patted her head reassuringly. "I already warned Hank and Morris. As long as you're safe, that's all that matters. We're putting everything else on hold for the next two days. We're going to have a proper family Christmas."
As the three walked into the grand living room, they found Edgar and Alicia sitting comfortably on the sofa, with Sybil perched beside them. Gordon sat at the head of the room, looking thoroughly annoyed.
"Oh, Loyce and Forrest are back!" Alicia chirped. She was glowing with triumph, completely unbothered by the fact that her presence was clearly unwanted. "We didn't come over for anything serious. We just had some wonderful news and wanted to bring over some celebratory gifts. After all, Edgar is still a Lonsdale by blood, so we're all family, right?"
Hank strolled down the grand staircase, his hands in his pockets. "I distinctly remember the Lonsdale family legally severing all ties with you. It takes a special kind of shamelessness to show your face here, Alicia."
Hank's biting sarcasm was like a pebble tossed into a lake; Alicia barely even registered it. Her smugness only thickened.
She covered her mouth, letting out an affected laugh. "Oh, Hank, you're so dramatic. A piece of paper can't sever blood ties, can it?"
Her eyes deliberately swept over the stony-faced Gordon, then landed on Loyce and Forrest, before she patted Sybil's hand with the air of a conquering queen.
"Our Sybil is just so blessed. She just married Mr. Horace Fremont, and already, she's brought us incredible news."
