She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 66

Quiana’s fingers clenched hard around the hem of her dress, nails biting into her palm. “Loyce… what are you even talking about? I don’t understand a word of this.”

Loyce let out a soft laugh, her fingertip idly tracing the glass display case. “So Lester never told you.”

She lifted her eyes, and the chill in them sharpened. “His racing team got banned for five years because of Quiana’s illegal stunt. The sponsors are suing for fifty million, Mrs. Sampson, don’t tell me you didn’t know.”

Adele’s face froze for half a second, then she scoffed like it was nothing. “Quiana’s about to marry into the Vaughns. Fifty million is pocket change!”

She yanked Quiana close with a possessive arm and snapped at Loyce, voice rising. “And you, ungrateful traitor, helping outsiders rob your own family!”

“Me?” Loyce tilted her head, a mocking curve to her mouth. “If winning Lester’s championship bonus counts as robbing him… then sure.”

“What?!” Adele’s pupils contracted.

No wonder her husband had been tearing through the accounts two days ago, only to find fifty million quietly moved out of the company. That money had been set aside for payroll. Now it was a gaping hole, and they’d have to cover it themselves.

The more Adele thought about it, the hotter her anger burned. She grabbed her purse off the counter and hurled it at the sales associate. “Kick that trash out! I’m buying this bag!”

The associate flinched, face tight with panic. “M-Mrs. Sampson… they’re all customers. I… I don’t have the authority—”

Adele jabbed a finger at the bag Loyce had been looking at. “She wants that one? We’ll take it. I’m buying it for my daughter.”

The associate’s eyes flickered with sudden interest. “Of course. And would you like to look at some other items as well? We have new arrivals—home décor pieces, collectibles…”

Adele knew exactly what that meant: if you wanted the bag, you were expected to pad the purchase with extras. She puffed up, determined not to look bad. “Fine. Add it all.”
