Their jet touched down at a private airfield in Serrania. Moments later, a second aircraft landed right behind them. Corinne Pierce stepped out of the cabin cradling a cat and walked straight into a waiting white stretch Bentley.
As the flashy vehicle cruised past Loyce's group, the employees let out collective gasps. "Look at the size of that thing. They're definitely throwing a party in there."
Loyce's eyes tracked the limo. Through the tinted glass, she could just make out the silhouettes of men and women swaying with champagne flutes in hand.
She memorized the license plate before turning her attention back to her team, guiding them toward the shuttle bus that would take them to the resort.
Before boarding, Giselle was hit with another wave of severe nausea. She bent double over a patch of grass and retched.
Jean Morgan rushed to her side, rubbing her back. "How is your motion sickness this bad?"
Internally, Giselle was terrified, but it was a secret she absolutely could not share. She took a bottle of water from a coworker, rinsed her mouth, and rasped, "It's probably just from flying for so long."
Though Loyce viewed Giselle as a formidable and talented younger sister, she knew better than to pry when someone was determined to hide something.
"Sit up front by the window," Loyce instructed. "It's still a bit of a drive to the Ruby Oasis Resort."
Just as she was about to step onto the bus, Loyce paused and glanced back. The last private jet parked on the tarmac had landed around the same time they did, yet the passengers had delayed disembarking.
Even from a distance, Loyce could feel heavy stares locked onto her. It was a predatory gaze that made her skin prickle.
It was only after Loyce's shuttle drove off that Hank Lonsdale emerged from the cabin, flanked by a long line of massive, intimidating enforcers from the Costa family.
Their sudden appearance terrified the private airfield's ground crew, who kept their eyes glued to the pavement, too scared to look directly at them.
Hank took off his sunglasses and handed them to his assistant. "Relax. I'm just bringing my guys here for a vacation. No one leaked our arrival, did they?"
The ground manager nodded furiously, his voice shaking. "N-no, sir. Everyone involved signed ironclad NDAs. No one knows you're here to unwind."
Hank offered a smooth smile. "Excellent. Let's head to the Ruby Oasis Resort."
As his SUV drove past the patch of grass where someone had thrown up, his smile vanished, replaced by a rare look of deep contemplation.
On the shuttle, Loyce suddenly received a text from him.
First, he asked if she had made it to the resort. In the very next breath, he asked if that girl, Giselle, was sick.
