She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 380

The other relatives started shouting in agreement.

“That’s right! Make her pay!”

“She looks harmless, but she’s vicious!”

“Call the police! She needs to be arrested!”

The nurses cowered behind their station, too scared to make a sound.

The entire hallway was a tinderbox, thick with the smell of gunpowder.

Loyce sat in her wheelchair, her face still pale from her illness, but her eyes were unnervingly calm, carrying a cold clarity that seemed to see through everything.

“I didn’t murder anyone,” she stated flatly. “I saved people.”

“You’re lying! You think just because there are no cameras out there, you can get away with it?!” Mabel shrieked. “Several students saw you! To save your own skin, you pushed our daughter out as a human shield! That should be your leg in a cast! You should be the one covered in scars! You wicked, evil woman!”

The family members surged forward again, screaming curses, trying to get at her. But Loyce’s bodyguards were an immovable wall, forming a protective circle that no one could penetrate.

One of the guards leaned down. “Should one of us escort you away from here?” he asked Loyce quietly.

“Why should I leave?” Loyce replied coolly. “Leaving would only make me look guilty. It would be an admission of fault.”

Ignoring the vile insults being hurled at her, Loyce’s gaze traveled past the enraged Francis and Mabel to the figure being pushed in a wheelchair from around the corner. It was Marnie.

Marnie looked terrible. One leg was encased in a heavy cast and propped up on a brace. Thick bandages were wrapped around her chest and back, and her face was completely drained of color. The extensive trauma to her body meant she needed daily, painful dressing changes since her surgery, leaving her a shadow of the vibrant young woman she once was.

Marnie and the two classmates pushing her wheelchair saw Loyce. They knew exactly what had happened in those woods. They knew they were lying. Their eyes darted away, unable to meet Loyce’s steady gaze.

“Marnie.” Loyce’s voice wasn’t loud, but it cut through the noise with an invisible force. “Is your leg my fault?”
