Loyce’s eyelashes fluttered. “I won’t,” she promised softly.
Her three brothers were all busy men with important work to do. After staying with her for two days, they returned to their demanding schedules.
During this time, Lucian was strangely absent. He didn’t visit, he didn’t text. It was as if he had disappeared completely.
Loyce found it odd but assumed he was busy dealing with the fallout from the bear incident. In her hospital room, she reviewed the ‘Futura-Silicon’ project proposal that Forrest had given her. It confirmed a young actress named Yolene as the brand ambassador for the commercial district, set to be featured in upcoming promotions. A stack of evaluation forms from brands hoping to secure a spot in the district had already been submitted, pages and pages of dense text. None of them had been reviewed yet; the selection committee would make its final decisions and announce the results live.
After finishing the proposal, Loyce stretched and got out of bed, settling into the electric wheelchair beside it. She decided to go for a ride in the park downstairs. The dedicated elevator for the VIP wing was undergoing routine maintenance, so she had to go through the main hospital corridor to reach the elevators in the adjacent general ward building.
As soon as she entered the general ward floor, she saw a crowd gathered around the nurse’s station. A group of family members was screaming at the nurses, slamming their hands on the counter. She was close enough to hear them shouting her name.
“I want to see Loyce! Just tell me where her room is!”
“She did this to my daughter! Her leg might have to be amputated! And you’re protecting a criminal!”
“I’m telling you! If you don’t bring her out here today, I’m not leaving this hospital!”
Loyce’s eyebrows rose slightly as she wheeled herself forward. Her bodyguards immediately fell in step behind her, their presence a silent promise of security.
