“They're from the Department of Defense,” Lucian explained. “Assigned to help you with the technology upgrade.”
“Alright,” Loyce nodded. “Let's get started.”
These were the same people who had witnessed Loyce's modification skills on the warship before. So, despite being a group of prodigies with far more seniority, they all dutifully followed her lead. It took the team three days to import and successfully run all the code. The progress was surprisingly smooth.
During the first trial of the fully upgraded system, Loyce activated the emergency device, switched it to battlefield mode, and watched as the integrated AI automatically identified a virtual patient's injuries. 3D scanning, vital sign monitoring, and emergency treatment plan generation were all completed in a single, seamless process.
When a virtual patient went into cardiac arrest, the system even anticipated the crisis and had an epinephrine injector ready.
Furthermore, even after continuous tests with a stream of virtual patients, the machine showed no errors or overheating issues. Compared to the equipment Gavin provided, this was a true quantum leap.
“Incredible!” someone exclaimed.
The entire lab erupted in applause. They gathered around Loyce, their eyes filled with admiration and respect.
One of them immediately pulled out an invitation. “We would be honored to have you as a post-doctoral professor of medicine or artificial intelligence at Northstone University. We are severely lacking educators with your expertise in these fields.”
The pre-prepared invitation showed they had come with a purpose.
Looking at the woman who was at least a decade her senior addressing her with such deference, Loyce accepted the invitation. “I'll consider it.”
She was planning on advancing her academic credentials anyway, though she wasn't sure if she could jump directly from a research position to a post-doctoral professorship.
“We should have a celebratory party!” someone suggested. “This is a historic event! We're finally free from Gavin's medical equipment!”
Another person chimed in, “It's not that simple. He'll hold on tight to his patents. Even if we didn't copy his tech, he could tie us up in court for ages just by claiming infringement. We won't be able to switch over that quickly.”
“It should be soon,” Loyce said quietly.
“Exactly. We need to maintain that positive outlook for things to proceed smoothly.”
Just then, Loyce's phone vibrated twice. A message from Sapphire had come in.
