She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 222

“No.” Lucian cut her off the moment the words left her mouth, his expression unchanging. “I don’t want my girlfriend to get the wrong idea.”

Jasmine’s face froze, and she took a step back. “Then I’m afraid I can’t help you. My offer was a simple exchange. I hope you pass the scan.”

Just as the argument in the conference room reached its peak, the door swung open and Lucian’s commanding figure filled the doorway.

“There’s no need to argue,” he announced, his voice cutting through the tension. “The regulations require a physical. Let’s follow procedure.”

He strode into the room, his gaze sweeping over everyone like a blade before finally landing on Caden. The sound of his military boots on the floor was starkly loud in the suddenly silent room, each step seeming to land on everyone’s frayed nerves.

All the officers immediately stood and saluted. Caden did the same, offering a hollow explanation. “This isn’t personal, Lucian. We’re not just colleagues; we’re like brothers. I just want to ensure the oil field operation goes smoothly.”

“I know,” Lucian said. “Let’s get on with it. I’m also curious to see just how capable our warship’s most expensive, top-of-the-line medical machine really is.”

Caden’s eyes narrowed. Lucian’s easy agreement felt like a trap. “Rest assured, Admiral Shapiro,” he said smoothly. “This examination will be conducted by Gavin’s professional team. There will be absolutely no errors.”

“I should hope not,” Lucian replied.

Meredith remained silent this time. When the door had opened, he had seen the dark look on his daughter’s face. He sighed internally. He knew she had a crush on Lucian and was trying to use this situation as leverage, but she had forgotten that a decorated war hero like Lucian, a man forged in battle, would never be swayed by romantic games.

The group proceeded to the warship’s medical bay to witness the examination. Gavin’s technical team was already waiting.

Gavin himself was on-site, a wide smile plastered on his face. “This Multi-functional Battlefield First-Aid System not only provides rapid treatment for critically injured soldiers on the front lines,” he explained cheerfully, “but it also offers our servicemen the most comprehensive health screenings during their downtime, with an accuracy rate of 99%. Admiral Shapiro, with your physical constitution, I’m confident you’ll pass with flying colors.”

Lucian gave him a single, fleeting glance. It was enough to send a chill down Gavin’s spine; he saw a flash of danger in those eyes.

“Let’s wait outside the medical bay,” the Naval Commander suggested.

Inside, the cold, white light gleamed off the metallic surfaces of the equipment. Lucian stood in the center of the room and unbuttoned his military jacket, revealing a form-fitting black tactical shirt underneath. The muscles not covered by the shirt were a roadmap of old scars.

A technician from Gavin’s team stepped forward, his fingers flying across a control panel to activate the diagnostic program. “Admiral Shapiro, please lie down. We’re ready to begin,” he said with a gesture. “This system is the most advanced in the entire fleet. It not only assesses physical functions but can also predict potential risks to the nervous system.”

Without a word, Lucian lay down on the examination table. A mechanical arm slowly descended, attaching cold sensors to his temples, wrists, and chest. The chilling touch made him narrow his eyes slightly.

A beep signaled the start of the test. On the holographic display, streams of data scrolled by at high speed.
