She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 189

“Where have you been?” he asked, his jaw tightening as he caught the faint scent of blood on her. “Was there trouble?”

Loyce paused for three seconds before meeting his gaze with wide, innocent eyes. “I think so. I couldn’t find the restroom, so I went upstairs to look. As I passed one of the suites, I heard fighting inside. I didn’t dare stay, so I came back down.”

Lucian almost laughed at her blatant lie, but he didn’t call her out on the bloodstain on her dress, which had almost perfectly blended in with the red fabric.

“Well then,” Lucian said, “may I take you home now?”

Loyce considered for a moment, then nodded.

Just as they were about to leave the casino’s VIP area, a voice called out from behind them.

“Loyce!”

It was Adele, shamelessly pushing her way forward. Her earlier look of disgust was gone, replaced by a fawning smile. “I had no idea you were so lucky at the tables! That’s two billion! As it happens, the Sampson Group is a bit tight on funds right now, and we desperately need a large investment. Plus, there’s the hundred million your brother owes… it’s not much. Just give your mother one billion, and we’ll call it even.”

For a moment, Loyce thought she was hearing things. A slow smile spread across her face. “And who is this shameless old woman?”

Adele’s face flushed with a mixture of colors, but she bit back any insults. Instead, she put on a show of remorse. “Fine, I’ll apologize. I’ll get on my knees and beg for your forgiveness.”

She made a dramatic show of starting to kneel, but Quiana stepped forward and stopped her, fixing Loyce with an accusatory stare. “We were family once, Loyce. Are you really going to stand by and do nothing while we suffer?”

Loyce raised an eyebrow. “Oh, I can help. On one condition.”

“Name it,” Adele said immediately.
