She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 149

Loyce let out a cold laugh, then suddenly slammed the car into reverse and floored it, sending the foremost attacker flying.

“Hold on!” She yanked the steering wheel hard. The sports car screeched across the pavement in a perfect arc, the tires screaming in protest.

The other three assailants were caught completely off guard, swept off their feet by the car’s fishtailing rear end.

“Nice!” Yorick Winslet couldn’t help but exclaim.

But Loyce’s eyes were glued to the rearview mirror. “It’s not over.”

Sure enough, another SUV burst from a side road, the dark muzzle of a gun poking out from its window.

Loyce’s pupils contracted. Etched onto the barrel of the gun was a tiny ‘X’ insignia, glowing faintly crimson in the moonlight. Anyone else might have missed the mark, but to Loyce, it meant everything.

“The Crimson Edge series…” she murmured, her fingers tightening unconsciously on the steering wheel.

It was part of the shipment that had been stolen from her at sea—a high-precision sniper rifle. The most terrifying feature of this weapon was its special ‘blood groove’ design. Upon impact, the bullet would shatter into six blade-like fragments, creating a fatal wound inside the body that was impossible to surgically repair. Its destructive power was comparable to shrapnel from a grenade.

“Brace yourself!” Loyce stomped on the accelerator, and the engine roared like a wild beast. She had to make sure they didn't get a clear shot. A hit from that thing wouldn’t just be an injury; it would be instant death.

The attacker in the SUV squeezed the trigger, but Loyce, as if anticipating it, swerved sharply. The bullet grazed the car’s body, exploding in a shower of sparks on the asphalt.

“What kind of gun is that?!” Yorick stared in shock at the crater in the road. No ordinary bullet could cause that kind of damage.

Loyce didn’t answer, her focus entirely on the rearview mirror. The way she instinctively dodged the bullet’s trajectory seemed strangely familiar to Yorick.

“I’ve never seen a weapon with that much power,” he said, unable to hold back his curiosity. “You seem to know what it is.”
