“Wait.” Lucian suddenly stopped him. “Once the video is restored, don’t
release it just yet.”
Robert turned back. “Sir?”
“Wait for the right moment…”
Lucian pictured Loyce’s eyes, always filled with a confidence that suggested she had everything under control. She always insisted she didn’t need his help, that she could handle things on her own.
But what about this time? The video had been manipulated by a highly skilled professional; an ordinary person wouldn’t even be able to spot the edits. Could Loyce resolve this crisis by herself?
Lucian was intrigued. He wanted to know the answer. Of course, he would be there to back her up if she needed it.
…
As the news about Loyce spread like wildfire, picked up by gossip columns until it became a city–wide joke, the Lonsdale family had intended to shut it down immediately.
Gordon was so furious he wanted to grab his cane and personally go beat some sense into the slanderers. He didn’t blame Loyce at all for how things had escalated. He took her hand, his heart aching as he took all the blame upon himself.
“It’s all my fault, my dear. You were never given your due at the Sampson household, so how could you be expected to outwit those cunning old foxes? I will make sure you get the justice you deserve.”
Forrest sat beside them, his expression serious as his fingers flew across his tablet. “I’ve already contacted a PR team. We should be able to suppress the rumors by tonight at the latest.”
Chapter 127
Morris, his face cold, was already on the phone. “The video is doctored. I saw the original that Loyce sent me from the recital. I know exactly who’s
behind this.”
Hank, who had rushed home upon hearing the news, was livid. “It has to be the Seabrooks! Sybil might be scheming, but she’s not smart enough to pull this off alone. Alicia wants to pave a golden path for her daughter and thinks she can use my sister as a stepping stone? Does she have a death wish? I’m going to confront her right now!”
Morris placed a hand on his shoulder, stopping him. “Don’t bring your gangster tactics to Metropia. Everything here requires evidence. Rushing in like this will only give them leverage and make things worse for Loyce.” Hank gritted his teeth in frustration. “Then what do we do?”
Watching her family rally around her, Loyce felt a wave of warmth wash over her. She gently squeezed Gordon’s trembling hand. “Grandpa, don’t worry. I can handle this.”
Gordon looked at her, his heart aching. “Silly girl, this is no time to be stubborn. Let your grandfather and brothers help you…”
‘Really, it’s fine.” A cunning glint flashed in Loyce’s eyes. “I allowed that fake video to circulate. Otherwise, none of you would have even seen it.”
She pulled a USB drive from her pocket and plugged it into the television. The screen immediately displayed a side–by–side analysis of two videos: the one circulating online and the complete, unedited surveillance footage.
