She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 12

Loyce prescribed only a few basic meds and handed the paper over. “It’s just swollen lymph nodes from a cold. Take an anti-inflammatory for a few days. If it were a tumor, the nodes would be enlarged and hard. And you haven’t had any other symptoms, right?”

The woman nodded hard. “I’m healthy! It was a free community screening. They said something was wrong and told me to get checked at Walsh Hospital. I got scared, so I went!”

Loyce’s expression stayed tight. “You don’t need surgery. Take what I prescribed for a few days.”

After she sent the woman off and saw several more patients, it got late. Marcella packed up, and the two of them left together.

All the way down the street, Marcella cursed Walsh Hospital under her breath. “Those doctors exaggerate everything. They turn small problems into big ones. Something a cheap prescription could fix, and they push people into surgeries that cost hundreds of thousands. And they target the poor. I’ve seen several cases already. It’s disgusting!”

Loyce’s face was grim. “I’m not blameless in this.”

Walsh Hospital belonged to the Walsh family, and it partnered with Loyce’s school. Several department heads even held positions there. And Byron, after graduating med school, had gone straight into Walsh Hospital as a physician.

Back then, Loyce had given the Walsh family special access through CoreWell Pharmacy because of Byron. She’d even arranged for renowned specialists to consult at their hospital. That was how the Walsh family earned their reputation as Metropia’s top medical dynasty, and Walsh Hospital’s name had exploded—patients coming nonstop.

Marcella knew exactly what that meant. She patted the back of Loyce’s hand. “Then you need to deal with it properly. You can’t let the Walsh family use your influence to rake in money and ruin lives.”

Loyce nodded, then pulled out her phone and messaged an encrypted number.
