She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 11

Loyce took the check. Glancing at the staggering treatment fee printed on it, she gave a satisfied nod and turned to leave.

“Hold on,” Zeke called after her. “Miss, what’s your name? Where do you live? How am I supposed to send someone to pick you up next time?”

“When it’s time, I’ll come on my own,” Loyce said without looking back. Then she walked out.

The other so-called famous specialists who’d been summoned were dismissed as well, one by one, until the room finally quieted down.

When Lucian woke again, his body felt lighter than it had in ages. Zeke sat at the bedside, worry in his eyes. “Lucian, do you feel any better?”

Lucian nodded against the pillow, then asked quietly, “Where is she?”

Zeke blinked. “Who?”

“My doctor.” Lucian’s brow tightened slightly. “You didn’t keep her here?”

Zeke finally understood. “Oh, that young miracle worker. She said she’ll come back next time. Your people picked her up from CoreWell Pharmacy. She’s probably the one on duty there. Pretty bold!”

Even now, Lucian could still catch a faint lily scent at the tip of his nose. The corner of his mouth lifted into the slightest smile. “Bold, yeah. Bold enough to gamble her life with me.”

Seeing him smile made Zeke genuinely stunned. Since Lucian’s illness flared up, pain had wrung every trace of laughter out of him. This was the first time.

“Grandpa will get you through this.” Zeke patted his shoulder, voice firm. “If you like that girl, I’ll go bring her back right now.”

“No.” Lucian shook his head, the smile fading. “You’re overthinking it. We’ll see each other again.”
