She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 115

Onstage, Sybil’s fingers faltered for a fraction of a second. She had practiced the difficult transition in that section countless times, but the modulation always felt clumsy. Fortunately, her familiarity with the piano allowed her to smooth it over before anyone in the audience noticed.

Backstage, however, Morris’s perfect pitch caught the flaw instantly. His brow furrowed imperceptibly. “Is that the new piece she wrote for Logan?” he murmured to his assistant, Hector. “This doesn’t sound like her style.”

Morris’s assistant was also a gifted musician, and the two were as much friends as colleagues. Hector handled most of the musical queries Sybil sent Morris.

“I had the same thought,” Hector said. “I’m more familiar with Ms. Seabrook’s style than anyone, and honestly, this score is a huge step up from her previous work. But from the third measure on, it feels disconnected, incomplete. Mr. Ludlow isn’t a pure musician; he can tell the piece is good, but he can’t hear that it isn’t perfect.”

“So you also think it needs more work?” Morris asked.

“Absolutely. The latter half needs a major rewrite. To me, this feels more like a rough draft than a finished piece.”

Sybil, relying on her superb technical skill, managed to complete the performance. She rose gracefully, curtsying to the thunderous applause.

She winked playfully at the audience. “Thank you to Morris for giving me this stage, to Mr. Ludlow for the opportunity, and to all of you for your support.”

Sybil smiled, her next words a naked bid for fame. “If you enjoyed the piece, please follow my social media accounts. I welcome all feedback, good or bad, and I promise to learn from it.”

Loyce, who had been silent until now, suddenly raised her hand. “Sybil, I think it could use some work.”
