Finn had expected Soren to come looking for him, so he wasn’t surprised.
He glanced up, his gaze calm as he looked at him.
Soren entered, shut the door, and leaned against it with an air of superiority.
“You’re hurt this badly, and she’s not here taking care of you?”
“Where did she go?”
He’d seen Evangeline leave with her bag, which clearly meant she was leaving the hospital for a while and didn't plan on coming right back.
But when he had just been sick, Evangeline had been incredibly anxious, staying by his side and taking care of him for a long time.
A strange feeling settled in Soren’s gut at the thought.
He had seen what Evangeline was like when she loved someone, and he suspected she might not love Finn as much as she let on.
Perhaps there was something he didn’t know.
Finn guessed what he was thinking. The question was ostensibly about Evangeline's whereabouts, but it was really an attempt to probe the state of their relationship.
His desperation was all too obvious.
Finn smirked.
“Evangeline might seem soft, but she’s incredibly stubborn. When she sets her mind on something, she has to see it through. The people she loves, she doesn’t give up on them easily.”
“But once she does give up, it means one thing.”
“There’s absolutely no going back.”
“So I suggest you stop wasting your time. Cherish the person you have right now.”
“Otherwise, you might just lose both of them.”
Soren’s face darkened at Finn’s suggestion that there was no hope for him and Evangeline.
He clenched his jaw, and after a moment, let out a cold laugh. “You don’t have to be so absolute. Evangeline and I were married for five years, and we almost had a child together. She can’t be completely devoid of feelings for me.”
“By the way, you probably don’t know this, but when I was sick, she would get so worried and stay by my side for a long time.”
“Not like now, just leaving someone in a place like this and taking off on her own.”
Finn heard the deliberate provocation in his words.
…
When Evangeline arrived at UME, the office was in chaos.
Lily, her eyes red and swollen, was running out of the office. She must have just had a talk with Theo. When she saw Evangeline, she shot her a venomous glare.
Evangeline didn’t know what Theo had said, but she wasn’t surprised by Lily’s reaction.
She quickly put the matter out of her mind, but as she entered the main office area, she noticed the tense atmosphere. Everyone looked grim.
“What’s wrong?” Evangeline asked, confused.
Surely the situation with Lily couldn't have caused this much of a stir? Besides, she figured Theo would have handled it privately, not made a public spectacle of it.
Before anyone could answer, she heard the sound of a heated argument coming from the conference room.
“How could you do this?! Don’t push us too far!”
It was Theo’s voice, raw with fury. He was clearly furious.
Someone next to Evangeline explained, “People from the overseas investors are here. They want to remove Mr. Carlisle as the CEO of UME.”
