Save Her Lose Us (Evangeline and Soren) novel Chapter 475

Victor didn't think anything of it and flicked the asparagus into the small waste bin on the table.

He was about to serve himself another dish when he saw Jason stand up, take the serving platter of asparagus, walk over to the main trash can, and tilt the plate, dumping the entire dish inside.

Victor stared. “What are you doing?”

Jason's tone was flat. “You didn't use the serving fork when you took some.”

Victor glanced at the fork in his hand, then at the serving utensils in the center of the table. “For that?” he asked incredulously. “But my fork is clean. I haven’t even used it.”

Jason replied, “But I’m particular about these things. That dish has been contaminated now.”

Victor was speechless. “...Jason, are you insane?”

“I told you, I haven't used this fork! And since when do you have this thing about cleanliness?”

“It’s a new thing,” Jason said. “I was just thinking that what you said earlier made a lot of sense.”

“No matter how good this dish is, the moment you touched it and it couldn't resist, it was no longer mine.”

Victor was struck dumb.

As the silence stretched, something seemed to click in Victor's mind, and he froze.

Seeing this, Jason said no more.

He waved a hand.

“I’m tired. I’m going to bed.”

“Put the dirty dishes in the kitchen sink. I’ll clean them tomorrow.”

“You should get some rest, too.”

With that, Jason turned and went upstairs.

Victor finally seemed to understand how Theresa felt, but he still couldn't bring himself to apologize.

Theresa felt that her father’s words were wrong, but she couldn’t quite articulate why. The sadness of the breakup hadn't fully hit her yet; instead, she was overcome by a bizarre sense of guilt.

As her mind swirled in confusion, Evangeline spoke up in a low, firm voice. “Mr. Carlisle, he doesn't do those things for Tessa. He does them because of his personality. He has a terrible temper, and he is the one who should be apologizing, not Tessa.”

“And I believe that one's views on right and wrong form their core values, and those values determine how you’ll spend the next several decades of your life together. So yes, it is important.”

“If Tessa backs down on this today, it won’t improve their relationship. It will only make him think he was right, and he’ll make even worse mistakes in the future.”

Theresa felt a sudden clarity.

Mr. Carlisle, however, shot Evangeline a glare. He was about to say something when a servant from the Carlisle household entered.

“Someone from the Lockridge family is here.”

Mr. Carlisle’s face lit up with pleasure, and he urged Theresa to go greet the visitor.

Theresa was surprised. She knew Victor well. In all the time they had been together, he had never once initiated an apology.
