Save Her Lose Us (Evangeline and Soren) novel Chapter 442

Evangeline recognized Kearney's voice from inside. After a moment's hesitation, she knocked on the office door.

The argument stopped abruptly.

A moment later, the door opened from the inside, and Kearney walked out, his face wearing the same gentle smile of an elder that he always did.

But Evangeline was no longer a child. She could see the coldness in his eyes.

Pretending not to notice, she greeted him politely. "I'm sorry to interrupt, Mr. Carlisle. I have some company business to report to Mr. Carlisle."

Kearney beamed at her, exchanged a few pleasantries, and then said, "Evangeline, my dear. To think you could survive a fall from such a height. You truly are blessed with good fortune."

Evangeline remained silent.

Kearney smiled again. "If only our Tessa were as fortunate as you."

At the mention of Theresa, Evangeline's fingers tightened. A thousand curses for him rose in her heart, but when she spoke, her voice was calm. "I'm sure Theresa will be."

"But I don't think just being alive counts as good fortune. Being able to live happily is what truly matters."

Kearney chuckled but said nothing more.

Only after Kearney had left did Evangeline enter the office.

Glenn was picking up a mess of documents scattered on the floor, the ones Kearney had thrown down during their argument.

Evangeline bent down to help him, gathering them and placing them on the desk.

"I know everything. Director Shaw told me," Evangeline said, referring to Glenn returning to the Carlisle family for resources behind her back.

She figured that during the time she was missing, Glenn must have desperately used the Carlisles' resources.

Otherwise, Kearney wouldn't have dared to show up and threaten him so openly.

"That Theo, he talks too much," Glenn said with a weary smile.

"Theo did the right thing," Evangeline stated frankly. "You were the one in the wrong."

She walked over to stand in front of him, her expression turning serious as her gaze fixed on him.

"Glenn, you never tell me anything."

"Compromising with the Carlisles for my sake, taking a huge risk to return to the country, and facing all sorts of dangers… you won't tell me about any of it."

"I know you're trying to spare me the worry, but you shouldn't have to bear so much alone."
