For Poppy's sake, he was willing to gamble one more time.
On the other end of the line, as soon as Liam agreed, Poppy's voice softened again. "Liam, thank you. I promise you, this is the last time."
Despite her words, a faint, almost imperceptible smile touched Poppy's lips.
After hanging up, she switched to another phone and dialed Victor's number.
While waiting for him to answer, she gently toyed with the ring Victor had given her before, letting out a soft breath.
After confessing to Soren that day, she couldn't contain her anger and had gone to Victor to 'demand an explanation.'
It was only then that she learned the ring had been in Victor's possession all along; he had never given it to Soren. In the hospital room that day, Soren had been deliberately bluffing to trap her.
She was heartbroken, but also terrified.
Having known him for years, she understood Soren's personality. Once a crack appeared in his trust for someone, it was nearly impossible to earn it back.
She had used this very weakness to create a rift between Soren and Evangeline.
She never thought that Soren would now suspect her as well.
Soren used to trust her so completely. For his attitude to change so drastically, Evangeline must have been sowing discord between them.
Evangeline could not be allowed to live.
But her movements were being monitored, giving her no opportunity to act. Besides, Evangeline was now with Finn, which made killing her exponentially more difficult.
The only person who would dare to make a move on Evangeline now, and was willing to take the risk, was Victor.
After nearly two minutes, Victor finally answered, his voice laced with a cold, murderous edge.
"What is it?"
"Evangeline is back and safe. Don't you want to kill her? I'll create an opportunity for you," Poppy said coldly.
Hearing this, Victor paused for two seconds before letting out a sneer.
"I'm no one's blade. If you want to use someone to do your dirty work, you've come to the wrong person."
Victor's eyelids lifted slightly.
Smoke swirled before his face, tracing the contours of his cold, handsome features, making him look particularly devilish in the twilight.
"Gather all our men. Bring guns."
"Tonight, anyone who resists is to be executed on the spot!"
His voice was resolute.
Victor tossed the extinguished cigarette butt out the window.
As he did, a figure flashed in his peripheral vision, and a sudden, strange feeling struck him like lightning. It was fleeting, gone before he could even try to grasp it.
In that instant, Victor's heart began to pound violently.
"Stop the car," he commanded sharply.
