The thought that Theresa was still alive sent another uncontrollable wave of excitement through Evangeline, and she lowered her voice to tell him.
As she expected, a flash of surprise lit up Glenn's eyes upon hearing the news.
Evangeline knew what he wanted to ask. “She’s doing well now,” she said.
“We were only able to get back thanks to her.”
She wanted to say more, but Glenn raised a hand, gesturing for silence. “As long as she’s okay,” he said.
He glanced around the room.
Walls have ears.
And while he trusted Finn, he didn't trust the other members of the Lockridge family. Right now, he couldn't even fully trust Arabella.
Evangeline understood his hesitation and said no more.
She had deliberately kept her voice low, so Arabella hadn't overheard, but from the subtle expressions on their faces, she could guess they were being wary of her.
Arabella had no particular curiosity about other people’s little secrets.
But she still felt a bit annoyed.
She walked over to Glenn, looking at him while shaking her head and letting out several heavy “tsks.”
Glenn felt his skin crawl under her sharp sounds.
Evangeline looked on, equally confused.
Just as they thought Arabella was about to say something, she walked past them without a backward glance and went straight upstairs.
She left the two of them standing there, bewildered.
Finn, realizing Arabella was intentionally getting back at them for their lack of trust, just smiled helplessly. He gave them a nod and followed her upstairs.
Now that Evangeline was back, he had no more reservations.
“Soren has been making enemies everywhere lately, and the other families in Serenity City are already showing signs of resistance. The evidence of Poppy’s crimes and the negative press will get out sooner or later.”
“If the Fawkes family insists on protecting Poppy, the other families will eventually use it as an excuse to team up against them.”
Helena didn't know much about business, but she desperately wanted Soren to have his own child to inherit everything from the Fawkes family.
Now that Poppy was carrying Soren's child, she had reluctantly accepted her as a daughter-in-law and naturally wanted Poppy to give birth without any trouble.
She tried her best to hide the situation from Soren, reminding him to focus on his recovery and prepare for the engagement.
But there are no secrets that can be kept forever, and Soren soon found out anyway.
“So, is the evidence real?” Soren asked Helena, his voice cold.
