"Dad, I'm just out shopping. Why, what's wrong?"
"Get back here immediately. I have some things to ask you!"
"Dad, I don't think I can do that. I'm hanging out with Mr. Maddox right now. He hasn't said it's time to leave, and I wouldn't dare take off without his say-so. What if it upsets him?"
Jonathan was thoroughly shocked. "What did you say? You're with Sean?"
"Yeah, I am."
"You're not lying to me, are you?"
"Why would I ever lie to you? It's the truth. Want me to put Mr. Maddox on the phone for a second?"
Jonathan was absolutely thrilled. All of his previous suspicions instantly vanished into thin air.
"No, no, that won't be necessary! You kids go have fun! Come back whenever you feel like it. Actually, it'd be even better if you just didn't come back at all tonight. Make sure you keep Mr. Maddox good company!"
With that, Jonathan quickly hung up the phone, terrified of ruining their date.
Bianca let out a cold laugh. That greedy bastard was actually telling her not to come home just to protect his own interests!
He was probably practically praying he could shove her straight into Sean's bed!
Back at the house, Jonathan hung up the phone and looked over at Kate and her daughter.
"Are you two just overthinking things? Why would Bianca team up with Sean to trick us? Besides, do you even know who Sean is? You think a man like him has the time to entertain such petty games? Plus, when I just called Bianca, she was with Sean right this second! If things weren't going great between them, why would they be out on a late-night date?"
Kate was momentarily left speechless. She knew Jonathan was a paranoid man. Even without concrete evidence, just planting the seed of doubt usually got him suspicious.
