The celebration moved from the church to the hotel, lasting the whole day. As the banquet concluded, Peter and Darleen, showered with blessings from friends and family, boarded a helicopter for their honeymoon abroad.

York played his part perfectly, greeting guests and seeing them off as was expected of him.

At the hotel entrance, Claudia and Gideon were preparing to leave with their daughter. York stood beside his parents, making no special effort to speak with Claudia.

Just as they were about to depart, Mattie, nestled in Gideon's arms, reached out her chubby little hand toward York. "Uncle!"

Gideon accepted it on his daughter's behalf. "On Mattie's behalf, thank you, Mr. Ferguson."

After Claudia's family of three departed, the Ferguson and Louis families saw off the last of the guests before leaving themselves.

That evening, at the Ferguson Mansion, the atmosphere was anything but joyous. On what should have been a happy day celebrating Darleen's wedding, the faces of the Ferguson family members were grimmer than ever.

Wendy, exhausted from the day's events, sank onto the sofa, too tired to speak.

Old Mr. Ferguson brought up the old topic again. "York, your sister is married now. How much longer are you going to drag this out?"

York's lips were pressed into a thin line as he silently loosened his tie on the sofa.
