As the workday was ending, Gideon came to find Claudia.
Feeling a pang of guilt, Claudia glanced down both ends of the hallway before quickly shutting her office door.
“Gideon, this is a hospital,” she reminded him. “You can’t just keep popping over here for no reason.”
“I just came to ask,” Gideon said, “have you thought about it?”
Claudia’s mind went blank for a second. “Thought about what?”
“About ‘that night’,” he specified.
Claudia reflexively reached up to cover his mouth.
Gideon couldn’t help but smile at her reaction. He gently pulled her hand down and held it. “I’ve booked a table at a restaurant tonight. I want to talk to you.”
“See you at the restaurant,” Claudia said, quickly pulling her hand away.

Just after seven that evening, York and Peter arrived at an upscale restaurant downtown.
As they walked through the glass doors, they immediately saw Gideon and Claudia.
Claudia was asking Gideon what he wanted to eat. “Order whatever you like,” Gideon said. “You don’t have to accommodate my tastes.”
Claudia clutched the menu, a little moved. When she was with York, she was always the one catering to his preferences. Not just her, but her whole family as well.
It was a small, seemingly insignificant thing, but it felt so good to be considered.
Not far away, Peter gave York a subtle look. “Should we go over and say hello?”
York stared, transfixed by the look of genuine emotion on Claudia’s face. His hands, hanging at his sides, clenched into fists.
“No,” he said, turning and walking away without another word.
The entire meal, York was completely distracted.
By the time he, Peter, and Darleen finished their dinner and came down from the second floor, Claudia and Gideon were already gone.
