York’s hands, hanging at his sides, tightened into fists.
Claudia looked at him, her expression placid. “Hugh is the man with the best boundaries and the most warmth I have ever met. He is the best father.”
York’s gaze flickered, and he turned his head to look down the hallway.
Claudia had been married to him for three years.
He had neglected her, betrayed her, and hurt her.
He couldn’t even protect their child.
He hadn't been a worthy husband, much less a father.
The atmosphere grew inexplicably tense.
Seeing that the people in the hospital room had separated, Claudia knocked lightly on the door.
Inside, Hugh’s wife was expressing her gratitude. “Hugh, if it weren’t for Mr. Ferguson and Dr. Watkins tonight, Hawley and I would never have seen you again.”
She continued, “Especially Hawley. Mr. Ferguson took a knife wound to save our son’s life.”
Hugh held his wife's hand and spoke gratefully, “Mr. Ferguson, Dr. Watkins, thank you for saving my wife and our little boy.”
Hugh handed both York and Claudia a business card. “If there’s ever anything I can do for either of you, please don’t hesitate to ask.”
“You’re too kind, Hugh,” Claudia explained. “I just happened to notice your wife was being followed and got curious. Mr. Ferguson was the one who saved them.”
Claudia tried to sound as casual as possible.
She and York both remembered their past lives, which was how they were able to prevent this tragedy. But in their previous life, York and Hugh’s relationship had been strained because of her. She never expected York to make arrangements in advance and intervene to save Hugh’s wife and son.
