After hearing Lily’s story, Riyana became sure of one thing.
She would not become Lily.
Lily had loved David deeply, but she had also depended on him too much. She had waited, endured, hoped, and kept breaking herself quietly. Riyana would never do that. She knew herself better than that. She knew where her line was.
She loved Jabco, yes. That much she could not deny anymore. But loving him did not mean losing herself.
She would give him time. She would be patient, just once. She wanted to see how he would treat her now that they were married. She wanted to see if he would respect her, or if he would try to cage her even tighter.
And if one day she decided she had enough, she knew she could walk away.
That thought gave her some strength.
That evening, Riyana had to go to Lennox’s place.
He had sent her the location and the apartment number earlier, so finding the place wasn’t difficult. Still, when she arrived, she couldn’t help but slow her steps.
The building itself was intimidating.
Tall, modern, guarded. One of those luxury apartment towers that only appeared in magazines or business reports. The kind of place that screamed money and status without trying too hard.
“So this is where he lives,” she muttered softly to herself.
She took a deep breath and walked toward the elevator. When she finally stood in front of his apartment door, she checked the number again just to be sure.
This is it.
She raised her hand and rang the doorbell.
Once.
Twice.
Before she could ring again, the door opened.
And Riyana froze.
Lennox stood there, looking like he had just stepped out of a painting himself.
His hair was still damp, strands falling loosely over his forehead. He was wearing a light grey t-shirt and loose trousers, nothing formal, nothing sharp, yet somehow it suited him perfectly.
The fabric clung lightly to his shoulders and arms, outlining muscles that looked effortless, not forced.
He looked fresh. Calm. Comfortably handsome.
For a brief second, Riyana forgot how to breathe.
She cursed herself immediately.
"Get a hold of yourself"
If this were any other time, if she were not already in love with Jabco, if she were not married as of this morning, she might have actually fallen for Lennox Alfredo right then and there.
The thought startled her.
No. Stop.
She had just married a controlling man she loved too much. Thinking about another man was the last thing she should be doing.
Still, she couldn’t deny it.
Lennox was… dangerously attractive.
“Hi, Miss Rivan,” he greeted her with an easy smile.
His voice was warm, relaxed, like he wasn’t trying to impress her at all.
“Hello, Mr. Ardolf,” Riyana replied, giving him a polite nod, forcing her eyes away from his face.
“Please, come in,” he said, stepping aside.
“Thank you.”
She walked in, and Lennox closed the door behind her.
Before she could take more than a few steps, he spoke again.
“Before we start, would you like something?” he asked casually. “Tea, coffee, or a drink?”
“No, I’m good. Thank you,” Riyana replied.
“Alright then,” he said. “Follow me.”
As they walked deeper into the apartment, Riyana couldn’t help but look around.
The place was huge.
Minimal but expensive. Clean lines. Neutral colors. Everything looked carefully chosen but not overly decorated. It felt calm, controlled, and precise.
Just like him.
“There’s another floor,” she noticed quietly
as they approached a curved staircase.
“Yes,” Lennox replied. “The upper level is where I work.”
He started up the stairs, and Riyana followed.
