My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 305

Jabco looked down at her hand gripping his, then slowly lifted his gaze to her face.

His expression hardened.

Not guilty. Not surprised.

Just firm.

“I told you it’s already handled,” he said calmly. His voice was steady, almost cold. “Rumors don’t disappear in a few hours. They need time to die.”

Riyana’s nails dug into his skin. “This is not what you said,” she shot back. “You said you would stop it. You said he wouldn’t be harmed.”

“And he isn’t,” Jabco replied without raising his voice. “His company is still standing. He’s still free. No investigation, no arrest.”

She stared at him in disbelief. “Do you hear yourself?” she asked, her voice shaking now. “Do you think rumors like this don’t destroy people? Do you think this is nothing?”

On the other end of the call, Lily was shocked when she heard Riyana and Jabco's words, “Riyana? What are you saying?"

Riyana swallowed hard. “I’m sorry,” she said quickly, trying to steady her voice. “Give me some time. I’ll explain everything. Please….”

She ended the call before Lily could ask more questions.

The silence that followed felt heavy.

Riyana looked back at Jabco, her eyes glossy with suppressed tears. “You promised me,” she said slowly, each word trembling. “I married you because you promised me you wouldn’t hurt him or anyone around me. Do you understand that?”

Jabco’s jaw tightened. “And I kept my promise.”

“No,” she said, shaking her head. “You didn’t. This is harm. You’re just calling it something else.”

He leaned slightly closer, his presence towering over her. “Riyana,” he said, his tone turning sharper, “this world doesn’t run on clean hands. Rumors fade. Businesses recover. But if I hadn’t acted, he would have crossed lines he couldn’t come back from.”

Her eyes widened. “That’s not your decision to make!”

“It is,” he said flatly. “When you chose me.”

That sentence hit her like a slap.

She took a step back, finally letting go of his hand. Her chest felt tight, her breathing uneven. “So this is it,” she said bitterly. “This is what marriage to you means. Control. Power. Deciding what’s right for everyone.”

Jabco watched her silently for a moment. Then he spoke, slower this time. “You’re overthinking it. The rumors will die down. Northstar will survive. John will survive.”

“And what about me?” she asked quietly.

“Do you even care what this is doing to me?”

His gaze softened just a fraction, but his words didn’t. “You don’t need to worry about him anymore,” he said. “Focus on your life now. Focus on us.”

Riyana laughed softly, but there was no humor in it. “Us?” she repeated. “You think I can just forget everything and focus on us after this?”
