My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 293

Just as David pulled his car to a stop in front of the restaurant, his eyes caught a familiar figure stepping out of a black car.

His hands tightened around the steering wheel.

For a moment, he couldn’t breathe.

The pain that flashed through his eyes was sharp and raw, but he quickly buried it under anger. He had learned long ago how to hide hurt behind coldness.

That man was Jabco.

And Lily… Lily was his wife. The woman he loved. The mother of his son.

Just a few days ago, he had slipped a ring onto her finger. She had accepted it.

This very morning, she had been in his arms when he woke up. Her warmth was still lingering on his skin, yet now, sitting in this car, he felt like an outsider.

He didn’t even have the courage to step out.

Her warning echoed clearly in his mind. If you push me again, if you make even one more mistake, I won’t hesitate. I’ll take off this ring and throw it in your face.

David swallowed hard.

He didn’t know when he had become this weak. Maybe it was seven years ago, the day she walked away from him with no intention of turning back. Losing her once had broken something inside him. After that, the fear of losing her again had settled deep into his bones.

He was terrified.

But he also knew one thing. He had no choice. If he didn’t fight now, he would lose her for good.

Taking a deep breath, David pushed the car door open and stepped out.

Ahead of him, Jabco had already entered the restaurant.

David followed without thinking.

As expected, he didn’t need to ask anyone where Lily was. Jabco’s presence was enough. Wherever that man went, Lily wouldn’t be far.

Sure enough, after a few steps, David spotted her.

She was sitting with a group of people, food and drinks spread across the table. She was talking, smiling faintly, looking relaxed in a way she rarely did around him.

Jabco stopped a few meters away from the table.

David walked forward and stopped beside Jabco.

The two men standing together instantly became the center of attention. Both were tall, broad-shouldered, carrying a natural dominance that couldn’t be hidden even if they tried. They looked like figures carved out of stone. Powerful. Untouchable. And slightly dangerous, like people you instinctively knew not to offend.

Around them, the low buzz of the restaurant slowly shifted. Whispers began to rise.

“Who are they?”

“Are those…?”

“Why do they feel so intimidating?”

It was impossible not to notice them.

David’s eyes stayed fixed on the table ahead. On Lily. On the way she leaned slightly forward as she laughed at something someone said, her shoulders relaxed, her smile unguarded.

“She looks so at ease,” David said quietly, his voice low, almost bitter. “She’s never like that around me.”

Jabco didn’t answer right away.

His gaze was still locked on the same table, but not on the same person.

“Yes,” Jabco murmured absentmindedly, almost to himself. “I’ve never seen her smile like this either.”

David frowned and turned to look at him.

That sentence didn’t sit right.

He had seen Lily smile. Many times. He had seen her smile at Jabco too. Soft, polite smiles, yes, but smiles nonetheless. Yet something about Jabco’s tone made David uneasy.

Then David noticed Jabco’s expression.

It wasn’t the usual cold indifference. It wasn’t irritation or arrogance either. His eyes were darker, deeper, fixed on someone with an intensity that made David’s breath hitch.

Slowly, David followed Jabco’s line of sight.

And froze.

Jabco wasn’t looking at Lily.

He was looking at Riyana.

She was sitting a little away from Lily, listening quietly, her posture relaxed. She smiled at something man next to her said, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear without thinking. It was a simple movement, natural and unguarded.
