My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 275

“Then tell me the truth,” he said slowly.

“Don’t you think I deserve a proper reason? Why do you suddenly want to leave?”

Riyana was quiet for a few seconds. Then she lifted her head and looked straight at him.

“I’m planning to get married,” she said. “So for a while, I don’t want to work. I want to spend time with my partner.”

The words hit him harder than he expected.

He froze.

“Married?” he repeated. “You’re getting married?” His voice dropped. “You never told me.”

She shook her head. “Not right away. But soon. I’m already in my mid-thirties, sir. I think it’s time for me to settle down. I want to take a break from work life.”

She paused, then added calmly, “You don’t have to worry about the office. I’ll train the new secretary properly before I leave.”

Jabco said nothing.

He just stared at her.

His chest felt tight, as if something heavy was pressing down on it. He didn’t understand why. This was normal, wasn’t it? People got married. People moved on. She was just his secretary.

So why did it feel like he was losing something important?

“I’ll take my leave now,” Riyana said softly.

She turned and walked toward the door.

Jabco watched her back as she left. The door closed with a quiet click.

The room suddenly felt empty.

He leaned back in his chair, staring at the closed door. There was an odd hollow feeling in his chest, one he couldn’t name.

He tried to tell himself it was nothing. She was leaving, that’s all. It shouldn’t matter this much.

But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t shake it off.

Through the glass wall, he saw her sit at her desk and start working again, just like always. Professional. Focused. As if nothing had happened. She glanced at her watch now and then, waiting.

Minutes passed.

Jabco still didn’t leave.

After a while, she stood up and knocked on his door again.

That was when he finally rose from his chair and grabbed his coat. He knew if he stayed, she would stay too.

He walked out of his office.

Riyana picked up her bag at once and followed him.

Neither of them spoke.

The silence between them felt heavy, uncomfortable. They usually talked, about work, but today there were no words.

They stepped into the elevator.
