Olivia rose from the armchair where she had been sitting. Every movement of hers was graceful, deliberate. She didn’t raise her voice, but every word held the weight of judgment, the authority of a mother who had seen enough.
“You think,” Olivia began, her eyes narrowing, “that you can vanish for years, abandoning him without explanation, and then walk back into this house as if nothing happened?”
Marina opened her mouth, but the words caught in her throat.
“Don’t, I haven't forget what you had done on my birthday,” Olivia said sharply, silencing her before a sound could escape.
Her heels clicked softly as she approached, her figure commanding the entire room. “ So, I don’t want excuses. I don’t want your sob story. What I want is the truth, why are you really here? Because it’s certainly not love.”
Her gaze swept Marina from head to toe, disdain dripping from every second she spent looking at her. “No… love doesn’t look like this. Love doesn’t leave. Love doesn’t destroy.”
Riyana stepped forward again, fists clenched. “You’re nothing but a homewrecker! That’s what you are. David had a wife. He had a life. And you couldn’t stand it, could you? You had to slither back in and take what wasn’t yours.”
Marina flinched at the word homewrecker. It sliced through her chest, sharp and unforgiving.
Riyana’s voice rose. “Do you even understand what people say about him now? About our family? They whisper that David keeps you like some secret mistress, that you’re the reason his marriage failed. You’ve made him a laughingstock in the business world and in society. And for what? Because you couldn’t stand the thought of him being happy without you?”
Marina’s lips trembled. “I....No...”
“Silence,” Olivia snapped.
The word cracked like a whip. Marina shut her mouth instantly.
Marina swallowed hard.
Olivia took a step closer, her presence overwhelming. “I have watched women try to cling to my son for his name, for his power, for his money. Do you know what they all had in common?”
Marina dared not answer.
