Amelia warned, “You are not allowed to cat random stuff anymore. One more stomach ache and Mommy is force-feeding you medicine again.”

“No meds!” Nina squealed.

“Then no random snacks.”

They were walking and talking when Lucien scratched his cheek and asked, “Why don’t you let Nina walk? She’s super chubby. Isn’t she heavy to carry?”

He meant it very honestly. But Nina almost fought him on the spot.

Her cheeks puffed up in outrage as she declared, “Nina! Thin! Lot!”

She meant she had lost weight.

True, she had slimmed down a little after being sick for days.

But those soft arms and legs, and that sandwich-shaped face, still didn’t resemble anything close to a skinny child.

Amelia worried they’d argue. She quickly stepped in. “Nina’s still young. This is just baby chubbiness. She’ll get thinner when she grows up.”

“Really?” Lucien asked, doubtful.

Amelia nodded firmly anyway—she was raising her first kid, too, and honestly had no clue if all this baby fat would magically disappear once Nina shot up in height.

Thanks to Lucien’s nonstop chatter, the walk felt short. Before long, they were standing in front of the gleaming Graham Group building.

The security guard didn’t recognize Amelia behind her mask, but he recognized Nina instantly.

. He remembered this little one calling Benjamin “Daddy.”

Seeing they were here for Benjamin, he didn’t ask a single question, simply led them straight into the building.

On the first floor, the front desk receptionist greeted them with a polite smile, “What can I help you with?”

Amelia hesitated and replied, “I’m here to find someone.”

“Who are you looking for?”

“Benjamin.”

The receptionist blinked. For a moment, she had no words.

Her expression turned complicated. “Do you… have an appointment?”

I messaged him, Amelia said honestly.

The receptionist sighed softly, “There’s no record here. I’m sorry, I can’t-”

As soon as she said sorry, Amelia’s face flushed. “No, no, you don’t need to apologize. I made things difficult for you.

Amelia, as a fellow employee in the world of low-level workers, understood her all too well.

While the two working-class souls were bowing to each other in mutual guilt, Nina suddenly spotted someone behind them.

“Daddy!” she called out.

She slid right out of Amelia’s arms and ran on her tiny legs toward Benjamin.

She latched onto his leg and tilted her plump little face up at him.

“Cake!”

That tiny head had remembered only the cupcakes at Benjamin’s office.

Everything Amelia said earlier about “no random snacking”? Gone.

Amelia’s voice, which had been soft and polite, instantly snapped cold.

She said seriously to both of them, “No, Nina, you can’t eat anything except meals! Benjamin, do not give

her cake!”

Normally, Amelia treated Benjamin with a mix of caution and distance.

But whenever Nina was involved, she lost all sense of hierarchy.

Benjamin was already used to her switching faces.

He picked Nina up and looked at Amelia. “Okay.”

Only after he answered did Amelia suddenly remember she was supposed to be scared of him.

She cleared her throat and avoided his eyes. “I-I need to get to work. You can take Nina upstairs. And um… don’t give her any snacks. Give her a light lunch. Don’t let her overeat.

“There’s a formula and a bottle in her bag. If she’s hungry, give her milk.

“And her diapers are inside too.”

She handed the backpack to him and rattled off instruction after instruction.

Benjamin listened quietly, not showing a hint of impatience.
