“She really is a beautiful child, Lester,” Jeff said, his admiration genuine. “How did you come by her?”

Jeff kept asking about Nina.

gave him a cold look. “Are you taking an interest in my private affairs?”

He knew what happened to the last person who pried into Lester’s private life-he was dead.

“Blue, he your daddy?” Nina couldn’t remember the boy’s name, so she gave him a new one.

After Nina’s words were translated, he shook his head.

“No,” he said. “He like my mommy. He wanna be my daddy.”

Blue clarified his relationship with Jeff.

The two little ones played, and the adults followed nearby.

Nina went into the restroom by herself.

He himself rarely wiped Nina or pulled up her pants unless Amelia was unavailable and no other trusted woman was around to help.

Daniel got Nina’s pants sorted and washed her little hands.

Nina grinned up at him. “Un-coo Dan’el. You come!”

Daniel kissed her cheek. “Yes, I’m here to play with you.”

He had given up waiting for Lester to fail at babysitting because Lester seemed to have a

To prevent Lester from completely winning Nina over, Daniel had to step out of hiding and compete for her affection.

Seeing Daniel reveal himself, Lester said nothing more.

For the rest of the time, as Nina played with Blue, there was one more adult watching them.
