Chapter 345 A Day at Home

Nelson woke up early, too.

The moment both little ones opened their eyes, they started playing together right away.

Nina dragged over her sticker book, and the two of the sat side by side, happily sticking colorful pictures onto the pages.

They played for a long time, and with no one disturbing him, Benjamin rarely got such deep, solid sleep.

Just as it seemed he might finally get a full, uninterrupted rest, Nina grew bored with the stickers. She toddled over to the head of the bed to grab a new toy.

Instead of carefully stepping around her sleeping daddy she simply planted her chubby little foot right on Benjamin’s handsome face and stepped up onto him like he was a convenient stepping stone.

To anyone else, Benjamin was a figure of awe and respect.

But to Nina? His perfect features were just another surface to pat, poke, or-in this case-step on.

Benjamin jolted awake. Thankfully, his face remained intact.

“Nina, what are you doing?”

He didn’t dare stay lying down. He propped himself up on the bed and watched as Nina hugged her favorite watering-can toy to her chest.

She turned her round face toward him, flashed a big grim, and chirped cheerfully, “Daddy! Good morning!”

Benjamin pinched the bridge of his nose. This morning was anything but good.

After greeting him, Nina scampered back to Nelson and dove right back into play.

The two kids got along beautifully. When Amelia woke up and saw them together, she thought for a moment and decided to call in sick for Nina.

“Let her stay home with Nelson today. That way he wont get bored.”

She figured Nelson might feel a little awkward or out of place in a new house, but having Nina-the ultimate little ball of energy-around would make everything more fun and natural.

The second Nina heard she didn’t have to go to daycare her eyes lit up.

“Mommy… Nina no school?” She looked at Amelia excitedly, seeking confirmation.

Amelia nodded, grabbed Nina’s chubby little legs, and changed her clothes.

Soon Benjamin had helped Nelson wash up and settled him comfortably in the wheelchair.

One child in a wheelchair, the other carried in arms.

Nina tilted her head curiously at the wheelchair.

“Mommy, Nina sit!”

Amelia patiently explained, “Nina, this is a wheelchair. Is for Nelson because his legs are hurt and he can’t walk right now. Are your little feet hurt?”

Nina blinked several times. To get a turn in the wheelchair, she immediately told a bald-faced lie.

“Mommy, Nina hurt.”

Amelia gave her chubby foot a light pat.

“You’re not hurt at all.” She shook her head with mock sternness. “No lying, okay? Good babies don’t tell fibs.”

Amelia was already starting the day’s lesson early.

Nina pouted, clearly unhappy about being scolded.

When it was time for breakfast, she refused to let Amelia feed her and wouldn’t sit next to her either.

She insisted on sitting between Daniel and William instead.

Nelson had wanted to eat by himself, but Amelia gently fed him breakfast anyway.

He ate big, hearty bites and finished quickly.

Once his plate was clean, he glanced over at Nina.

Nina had kicked off her little shoes and was now holding one chubby foot in her hand while slowly chewing her food with exaggerated slowness.

Amelia shot her a warning look-several times-until Nina finally stopped playing with her food and swallowed properly.

Breakfast took forever, but eventually it ended. Benjamin left for the office. Amelia headed out shortly after.

Chloe stayed home with the two children for a couple of hours before getting a call from Fiona and leaving

too.

They all slipped out quietly, making sure Nina didn’t notice.

After yesterday’s chaos, no one wanted to risk taking her outside today.

Seeing everyone gone, Nina grabbed her little bucket for digging and asked Daniel and William, who stayed behind, about Chloe.

Daniel smiled and pretended to be clueless. “I don’t know where Chloe went.”

Nina scrunched her little brows and answered her own question.

“Auntie Chloe go out.”

Daniel nodded, still smiling, “Is that right?”

He kept coaxing her, “Chloe probably went to buy something nice for you. Let’s keep digging in the dirt for a while, okay?”

There was a proper sandbox in the yard for kids, but Nia preferred digging in the actual mud with her

bucket and shovel.
