Chapter 307 Told on Him
Daniel shook his head.
Seeing this, Chloe said, exasperated, “Why didn’t you feed her?
“Never mind. Leave her here with me. You go buy some food.”
Chloe shooed Daniel off to get a meal.
Brian volunteered to watch Nina for a while.
“Chloe, no wonder you talk about Nina so much. She really is adorable,” he praised.

Nina, however, just looked at him. Perhaps because she hadn’t gotten the orange earlier, she didn’t react to his compliment.
She didn’t even say “you’re welcome.”
Instead, Nina lowered her head and started peeling the orange she held.
Her chubby little fingers tore through the peel, making juicy, sticky mess of the orange.
Chloe could hardly bear to watch. “Nina, stop peeling that. Let’s eat something else.”
She didn’t want Nina to have the orange, as citrus tends to cause inflammation.
It wasn’t good for her when she was sick with a cold.
Chloe tried hard to coax her away from it, but it was no use.
Brian tried to coax her, too, also failing.
Nina wasn’t listening to the adults at all.
Seeing that Brian couldn’t persuade her, Chloe simply got out of bed and took the orange away.
Having worked so hard to peel it, Nina stared in surprise for a second before bursting into tears.
She cried with her eyes squeezed shut and her little face tilted up, big teardrops rolling down her cheeks.
Nina was genuinely heartbroken.
Chloe gathered up all the fruit in the room. Only after putting it away did she start comforting Nina, “Good Nina, don’t cry. Let’s eat something else, okay?
“Daniel went to get food. Don’t cry, don’t cry.”
No matter how Chloe tried, nothing worked.
Nina’s orange, right at her lips, was gone. Her sadness was inconsolable.
Seeing Nina wail nonstop, and worried the noise would other Chloe, Brian stepped up and carried the crying girl out of the room.
He said, “I’ll take her for a little walk outside.”

Brian carried the sobbing Nina, her eyes squeezed shut out into the hallway.
Nina was too busy crying to notice who was holding her

Soon, the two were outside.
Only then did Nina realize it was Brian holding her.
The moment she saw who it was, she immediately refused to be held.
Brian wasn’t flustered by her squirming. “Nina, do you want to eat an orange?”
That one sentence immediately got Nina’s attention.
Hearing the word “orange,” Nina’s chubby body stopped struggling in the middle of her wailing.
Seeing her resistance fade, Brian held her with one arm and produced an orange with his other hand.
Nina stopped crying.
She reached out her chubby hand to grab it.
Brian smiled, “Nina, let me peel it for you. You’ll make a mess.”
Nina was perfectly happy to be served.
She waited patiently as Brian peeled the orange for her.
Brian fed her a segment as he said, “Nina, I’m giving you this orange, but don’t tell anyone, okay? If you do. you won’t get any next time.”
Nina nodded seriously.
Even though she was a little chatterbox, she was smart.
She knew Chloe and Amelia wouldn’t let her have fruit.
If he gave her some and she told on him, he wouldn’t give her any either.
The two shared an orange outside.
Brian even bought Nina a little toy car from the store by the hospital entrance.
With a treat and a new toy, Nina was over the moon.
When they returned to the room, Chloe was impressed to see Nina had stopped crying.
“You’re pretty good with kids,” she remarked.
She pulled Nina over to sit on the bed and play with the car.
Nina must have had dozens of these palm-sized toy car by now, but she always wanted a new one whenever
she saw one.
Chloe spoiled her, too. Stuck in the hospital, she had ordered a bunch of things for Nina online.
