Right now, all of Amelia’s thoughts were on Nina.

She asked nervously, “Benjamin, do you think Regina would hurt Nina?

“Nina must be scared and crying.

“If she cries and Regina gets annoyed, what if she hurts her?”

Amelia had already imagined a bunch of scenes where Nina got hurt.

The more she thought about it, the more terrified she became.

Seeing her like this, Benjamin pulled her straight into his arms, his big hand holding her shoulder as he soothed her in a low voice.

“Nina will be fine. Amelia, have you forgotten? She didn’t dream this time.”

Benjamin’s comfort eased Amelia’s heart a little.

Nina’s two little hands were still tied.

The tender skin on her wrists had rubbed raw.

But she ignored the pain right now, toddling on her short legs out the door to find grown-ups.

This area was pretty remote. When someone passed by and heard Nina calling for help, they started walking over-but then they saw the snake on her.

After that, screams rang out, and no one dared come close.

Someone finally worked up the nerve to call 911, their hands shaking.

The firefighters arrived fast-just a few minutes.

By then, Nina had waddled all the way to the road across the street.

She wanted to keep going, but the firefighters stopped her.
