Chapter 190 The Disappearing Act.

Seeing that Nina needed the restroom, Amelia had William stay where he was while she took
Nina over.
Nelson quietly followed along.
The mall had family restrooms designed for parents and children to use together. Nina opened the door herself and went in first.
She didn’t allow Amelia to go in with her.
At home, Nina was the same way when using the bathroom. She wouldn’t let adults watch.
Even if Amelia wanted to, Nina wouldn’t allow it.
Amelia was actually relieved that Nina had a sense of privacy.
That said, Nina’s sense of privacy wasn’t exactly thorough.
For example, she wouldn’t let Amelia watch her poop, but once she was done, she wanted Amelia to help wipe her bottom.
Inside the restroom, the first thing Nina did was press the flush button.
She loved pressing that button the most.
Hearing the water flush, Amelia immediately stepped in. “Nina, don’t play with that.”
She stopped Nina’s chubby little hand and said, “We press that at the end, okay? Come on, let me help you pull your pants down. Once you’re done, we’ll go back out and keep playing.
“I’ll play with you today.”
Amelia was coaxing her when the closed door was suddenly knocked on.
A very urgent voice came from outside. “Hi, excuse me. Do you have any toilet paper? Could I borrow some?”
It was a woman’s voice. Hearing it, Amelia lifted Nina down from the toilet, pulled her back up, and casually opened the door. “Yes. Wait a moment, I have some in my bag.”

As she spoke, her expression froze.
Because standing in front of her wasn’t really a woman, but someone wearing a mascot
costume.

From inside the costume came a woman’s voice, urging Amelia, “Could you hurry? My stomach. really hurts.”
Amelia sighed, “Okay.”
As Amelia rummaged through her bag, she deliberately positioned herself in front of Nina.
That protective movement was instinctive for a mother.
Most mothers became alert when they were out with their children.
Amelia stayed alert, but her wariness wasn’t enough.
Earlier, before she went into the restroom, she’d seen this same mascot standing in front of another store. She never imagined that the person inside the mascot costume wasn’t actually a mall staff member. And the person inside that costume? They’d been waiting for Nina all along.
“Here you go-”
Amelia took out the tissue. The moment she lifted her head, her mouth and nose were suddenly covered by a handkerchief.
The handkerchief was soaked in a high concentration of ether.
The sharp, acrid smell hit her nostrils. Her eyes widened, but within seconds her body went slack, leaving her unable to resist.
Behind her, Nina sensed something was wrong. When she poked her little head out, Amelia had already collapsed.
“Bad guy!”
Nina reacted fast. Unlike other children who might freeze or burst into terrified cries, she didn’t hesitate.
Seeing Amelia fall, Nina shouted “bad guy” and charged forward to protect her.
But she only managed that one shout. The next second, her mouth and nose were covered too.
Nina was small, and the ether knocked her out even faster.
Once Nina was unconscious, the person in the mascot costume stuffed her into the costume’s oversized body and carried her out of the restroom.
A lot of effort had gone into targeting Nina.

Amelia wasn’t taken. She was never the target.

The mascot carrying Nina passed right under the guards’ noses and entered an operating store nearby.
At the entrance of the store, the mascot continued moving around, waving and attracting
customers.
