The toad Nina yanked out was literally bigger than her chubby little fist. She held it by the neck like it was a stuffed toy.

The uncles who had been cracking up a second ago suddenly stopped laughing.

They all sat up straight as arrows.

Right now, they were just grateful Nina had only given them bugs and not this monster. They really wouldn’t have survived.

That toad was a full-on sensory assault.

“Daddy! Take!” Nina shoved the toad toward Benjamin.

Benjamin had mentally prepared himself to study bugs with Nina someday. He was not ready to study this.

Mr. Clean Freak Benjamin took a deep breath to steady himself.

He pointed calmly at her little bag. “Nina, put it back.”

Nina’s eyes went wide. “Whyyyy!”

Benjamin looked totally calm on the outside, but inside, he was fresh out of ideas.

He made something up on the spot. “Because he needs to find his mommy. Nina, don’t you want to find your mommy too?”

The magic word “mommy” worked like a charm. Nina’s little face softened.

She didn’t put the toad back in the bag. She just threw it across the room.

“Go find mommy!”

After the heroic toss, she even waved her chubby hand and told the toad, “Bye-bye, find mommy!”

Benjamin instantly pulled out wet wipes and started scrubbing her hands.

Taking care of Nina meant Benjamin never got a single second of peace.

A few men who had been daydreaming about having kids earlier now silently dropped the idea.

Having a kid was easy. Raising one? Nightmare.

In just a few minutes, Benjamin had already given Nina vater, wiped her hands, wiped her feet, and kept one eye on her the whole time so she wouldn’t roll off the sofa.

One friend finally couldn’t hold it in. “Benjamin, why don’t you let the nanny take her?”

Families like theirs came with full staff-nannies, housekeepers, the works.

Hand Nina to a nanny, and Benjamin would be free.

Benjamin only answered with four calm words. “She doesn’t want nannies.”

Nina looked like a little social butterfly who said hi to everyone, but she was actually super picky.

When she went out, she only accepted certain people.

Her family, plus a few people she had been close to since she was tiny-those were the approved list

Anyone else? She’d refuse them.

After Benjamin said that, the friend just smiled and dropped it.

They were all smart. They understood instantly-Benjamin wasn’t stuck with Nina because he had no choice. If he really wanted free time, he had a million ways to make it happen.

He chose to carry her himself because he wanted to.

Benjamin and Nina stayed at Morris Villa until after lunch.

There were more activities planned after the meal, but Benjamin skipped them.

He held a sleepy-looking Nina and said, “Nina needs her nap. I’m taking her home. Next time, I’ll definitely join.”

Vincent said, “Of course! Nap time is the most important. Take her home.

“Oh, right-this is a gift for Nina. First time meeting her I didn’t have time to prepare anything fancy. When you hold her celebration banquet, I’ll bring a proper gift.”

Vincent was an elder, so Benjamin didn’t say no.

He was about to take it for her when Nina, still tucked in his arms, shot out her chubby hand and grabbed the present herself.

“Happy New Year!”

Seeing a gift automatically triggered “Happy New Year” in her little brain.

Her milky baby voice made Vincent laugh out loud.

He smiled, “Nina, this isn’t a New Year’s gift. I’m giving you this present just to wish you happiness”

Vincent chatted with Nina for a bit longer, and Nina almost perked up again.

Thankfully, Benjamin carried her off in time.

On the ride home, Nina played for two minutes and passed out cold.

Once she was asleep, Benjamin snapped a photo and set it to Amelia.
