Chapter 104 The Toad That Said Hello

“No wipe.”

Nina jerked her chubby foot back and tried to scoot her whole plump body away.

Benjamin caught the dirty little foot before she pulled it away. “Too dirty. You can’t step on the sofa like that,” he said.

Nina puffed her cheeks. “I like dirty!”

Benjamin didn’t argue. He just held on and started wiping anyway.

“Daddy, go! No touch Nina!” Nina kicked like a mule.

The father-daughter wrestling match was on.

After taking several solid kicks, Benjamin finally switched to gentle mode.

“Lots of people are scared of bugs, Nina. You gave bugs to the uncles just now. That wasn’t polite.

“They got really frightened. You need to say sorry.

“When they forgive you, you’ll be a good Nina again.”

Benjamin had learned that last line from Amelia.

He had heard Amelia use the exact same trick on Nina countless times. “Nina, one more bite of veggies and you’re a good Nina! Wow, drinking all that water in one go-such a good Nina!”

Amelia always added cute little sounds and made her voice extra sweet.

Benjamin couldn’t copy the sweetness, but he could borrow the phrase.

“Bugs no bite!” Nina defended her buggy friends with a pout.

Benjamin patiently explained that even if bugs didn’t bile, some people were still scared.

He said it a few times until Nina sniffled and finally got.

She even gave an example. “Black Face Monster! Nina scared!”

Black Face Monster was a cartoon villain. Nina was very afraid of it.

Whenever Amelia ran out of ideas, she’d threaten that Back Face Monster was coming if Nina didn’t behave.

Sometimes that worked better than a spanking.

Once Nina knew she was wrong, she owned up like a big girl.

She obediently lifted her feet and let Benjamin slide on lean socks and brand-new little shoes.

When the shoes were on, she marched straight to those men.

Nina looked up with her round face, lips trembling a little but holding strong.

“I snorry,” she said.

Benjamin corrected softly from behind, “Just ‘sorry’ is cough.”

Nina rubbed her eyes. “Snorry.”

Benjamin felt a headache coming. He frowned and went word by word. “Sor-ry.”

Nina beamed. “You welcome!”

Benjamin gave up with a tiny shake of his head.

Watching Benjamin fail twice in a row, the men-who had genuinely been terrified of the bugs a minute ago-couldn’t hold it in anymore and burst out laughing.

“Sweetheart, it’s okay, I’m not mad at you.”

“Benjamin, I clearly remember you never raised Daniel like this-looks like Nina’s the one in charge now,”

These guys sitting close to Benjamin were all real friends.

He wasn’t like those cold CEO types with zero friends.

Sure, he talked little and seemed emotionless-like a walking robot-but he had never been cut off from the world.

Top schools, plenty of years on campus, normal classmate and friend relationships-he’d always had them.

He just never got close to anyone… except Amelia.

Thanks to all the teasing, Nina cheered right up.

Everyone was laughing, so she giggled too. “Daddy!”

After smiling at them, she spun around and threw herself at Benjamin’s legs. “Uppies!”

Her eyes sparkled as the clingy mode activated full power.

Benjamin looked down, scooped her up, and settled her in his arms.

Nina’s moods flipped like a switch.

Now she wrapped her chubby little arms around his neck and pressed her soft body against him.

Benjamin felt her warmth and closeness, and his own heart quietly followed wherever she led

“If

you want to play with bugs, bring them to me. I’ll make you an eco-box,” he said.

Nina didn’t know what an eco-box was.
