The ward fell quiet.
Kiera held Serena's hand, her expression tight with guilt. "I'm so sorry, sweetheart. You shouldn't have been treated like that."
"Your medical skills are incredible, and you worked so hard getting up early to make us this meal. It has to be the best. They're just being ridiculous!"
Holden chimed in from the side, "Exactly! That bunch can't do anything right. They just know how to cause trouble."
Serena chuckled lightly, completely unfazed. "The sanatorium has its rules. Following protocol isn't a bad thing."
Her expression remained placid, untouched by the minor drama. "After you finish breakfast, I'll arrange for the director of this facility to come over and handle your full-body checkups."
"The director?" Holden paused. "You mean Mr. White? He's the vice president of the International Medical Association. He has a notorious temper and is incredibly difficult to book. Even we have to schedule a month in advance just to see him. It's only a routine checkup, there's no need to bother the director."
"To avoid unnecessary complications later," Serena smiled. "Having him come over won't be a hassle."
The moment she spoke.
The sharp click of high heels echoed from the hallway, accompanied by an exaggerated laugh.
"Oh, Serena. You grew up out in the country, so you clearly have no idea how esteemed Mr. White actually is."
Anna walked in, linking arms with Isabella.
