"A faction capable of pulling this off..."
He let out a low, breathless chuckle, the sound laced with a predatory thrill and a chilling edge. "I'm afraid it's someone from the Gray Zone."
His tapping fingers came to an abrupt halt, and he lifted his dark, intense gaze. "Look into it. Find out what Gray Zone factions have recently entered the United Realmon States."
The trembling subordinate immediately agreed.
Just then.
His phone rang.
Rex glanced down at the caller ID flashing on the screen. In an instant, the suffocating, violent aura surrounding him vanished.
His dark eyes swept over everyone in the room with a warning glare, signaling them to keep their mouths shut.
They all immediately lowered their heads in silence.
Only then did he answer the call. "Mom, what's wrong?"
An older woman's voice came through the receiver, sounding displeased but undeniably gentle. "Douglas, Isabella is already here. You're her uncle, so why aren't you here yet? Didn't you say you'd be done by noon? Are you still working?"
Rex's voice was deep and smooth. "Yeah, something came up at the last minute."
"Ugh, if only you had come earlier to walk around town with me!" The old woman's tone was full of regret. "You have no idea. I ran into the most wonderful girl from Elyndor near the commercial street by the nursing home today. She's an incredible doctor and absolutely stunning. If you met her, you'd definitely fall for her."
Rex felt a headache coming on.
He was only twenty-six, in the prime of his career.
Yet, his mother was constantly obsessing over his love life.
He sighed helplessly. "Mom, I have no plans to settle down right now. Stop trying to set me up with every Elyndorian girl you see."
But even as he said the words.
