"Is there anything you actually consider a big deal?" Nicholas asked, his tone laced with exasperation. "Can't you rely on me just a tiny bit?"
Serena shot him a sidelong glance.
Even through the screen, Nicholas could feel her blatant disdain.
A sudden wave of defeat washed over him.
The girl he wanted to pursue was too capable—perhaps even stronger than he was. How was he supposed to handle this? He needed answers, and fast.
The man raised a hand and rubbed his head, leaving his dark hair in a messy tousle.
It gave his striking, aloof features an air of wicked, lazy charm.
Serena's lips curled into a smirk, carrying a hint of merciful condescension as she spoke with arrogant flair. "...Fine. Next time, I suppose I can reluctantly ask for your help."
Nicholas instantly beamed.
He looked like a man completely spellbound, ready to do anything just for a touch of her hand.
From there, their conversation fell into a steady rhythm.
"Serena, did you settle in alright?"
"Yes."
"How's the hotel?"
"It's fine," she replied, flipping the camera to give him a casual sweep of the room.
"Did you eat dinner yet?"
"It gets a little chilly there at night, so don't forget to close the windows."
"And make sure you don't go out after dark. The streets get chaotic."
"..."
